Title: What is this?
Post by: deltarider on May 27, 2023, 09:55:39 AM: In the garage bike fell over on its LH side and there is some damage.
The switch unit as a hole, 35200-341-600 is NA. The European CB500K2 shares this part with:

Option 1 is to buy a complete repro for € 123,57 at Honda4.NL. https://honda4parts.nl/product_info.php?products_id=2621 Quality unkown and it involves a lot of labour.
Option two is to fit just another clutch handle. A friend has one for me.
Now my model has that mini switch that prevents starting when bike is in gear unless clutch is pulled. I like to keep it that way.
I've searched the garagefloor for eventual dropped parts and I found this little half moon. BTW, the black little thing in the same picture is possibly not from my bike (it probably was already there on the floor).
My question is: what is this little half moon shaped part from and is it possibly supposed to be in between the miniswitch and the clutch lever and, if so, how should it be oriented?
When I opt for the cheap option, there is still a new spot for the mirror to be found. Do you guys know of something I can fit around the steel of the handlebar which can accomodate my mirror. Not original, but I can live with that.

The same friend that has the lever, also has a complete used original unit he is willing to sell, so that is the way I'd like to go which means I can just fit the mirror again where it belongs. It involves some work ofcourse. I have always managed to circumvent this through-the-handlebar replacing of wires chore, but I guess it's my turn now. Others did it, so it must be doable.
@ Bryanj. My model bike is still streetlegal without mirrors, but - to be honest - it's a bit risky imo. The bike looks much nicer without them and I was often tempted to ride withouth them. But nowadays my head/neck arrangement doesn't turn so easily anymore, so better to stay on the safe side.
@Matt. I am not sure the broken part can be welded again, but I'm no expert.
Oh and the mystery of that little half moon shaped thingy is solved. I remember now I've helped my neighbour some months ago fitting an EI on his '64 Puch MS50V and that we had to remove a wedge from his crank. We did this at the very same spot in the garage.

Actually they do Ted, there are 2 fitted to the 500/550 and most likely the other SOHCs as well.

Can you guess where they are?

The parts list shows the clutch switch cable is not an integral part of the complete unit, but a part that can be separetely ordered. In Hondaspeak: SWITCH ASSY., CLUTCH LEVER. Question: what is the black/yellow wire on Honda's for?

Post by: Bryanj on May 28, 2023, 10:17:59 AM: Black/Yellow is a lighting wire from memory but you cant rely on the wire colours of that switch as the front brake light switch on the small drum braked bikes(up to 125ish) is the same fit with different colours and there was a time when clutch switches were in short supply so brake ones got fitted
