CB500/550 / Re: CB550 K3 side panel badges
« on: July 25, 2022, 04:02:14 PM »
Hi
They are a little difficult to measure as they are very slightly curved, but I measure them at 51mm x 104mm. Measured with a vernier at the widest and longest points. The black background extends beyond the gold lettering so I have measured the distance across the total badge which includes the black background.
Hope it helps
Regards

CB500/550 / Re: What have I got?
« on: January 26, 2022, 07:30:39 PM »
Thanks to everyone for their replies, much appreciated. I think I know what the score is.
I do have a K3. It has F type carbs fitted by persons unknown.
The forks internals are the same as the F type, contrary to the Haynes and Clymer workshop manuals. However, a later version of the parts list for the K3 shows the same fork internals as mine. I therefore think that Honda changed the K3 fork design to the same as the F type after July 1977 (the issue date of the manuals I have).
I think this explains it and I'm happy to believe this.
The forks are the same externally by the way, the earlier K3 design has a central rod through the centre of the spring, the F type does not.
Nurse Julie, mongrel Millie looks very nice and I bet barks very loud as well.
Thanks to all

CB500/550 / What have I got?
« on: January 24, 2022, 06:18:19 PM »
Hi, Can anyone please advise / help identify what bike I actually have.
I thought (hoped) I had a 1978 550 K3. The bike wasn't identifiable when I purchased it some years ago.
Since embarking on the rebuild I have discovered it has F carbs and now I have found it has F front forks as well.
It has an engine no CB550E 2022251 and a chasis no CB550K 2021517
How can I confirm the model from this info?
Thanks

Where's My Old Bike? / Re: 550 K3, TMF 517S
« on: November 15, 2021, 10:46:22 AM »
Yes, my wife and I did plenty of Asda trips on it until we bought a Mk2 Cortina. Happy days.
Bryanj thanks for the info, it suggests it may be a project somewhere and could well make an appearance sometime in the future.

Where's My Old Bike? / 550 K3, TMF 517S

Anybody know of the whereabouts of TMF 517S, 550 K3.
Last known in the Grimsby area around 1982.
I swapped it for a lawnmower!
Thanks

Thanks for this.
I can see the pin in question (I think).
I have looked and can't see a previous post about this.
I need to clean up the throttle cable pulley assembly and other items that are on the spindle as they are seriously rusty and stained and I can't do this without removing them off the spindle. Hence the question.
Appreciate the help

CB500/550 / Carb actuating spindle removal
« on: October 30, 2021, 05:30:50 PM »
Can anyone advise on how to remove the actuating spindle (pivot bar?) on a set of F2 carbs for cleaning and refurb?
Mine will move sideways in both directions for approx. 2-3 mm before stopping hard against something.
It's not obvious to me what is retaining it and hence how to remove it.
All advice gratefully received.
Thank you

Well thank you both for the welcome.
Si, I'm away for the next week or so but when I'm back perhaps we could meet up.
I have sent you an email and will send another with my contact details if that's ok?
Nurse Julie, please tell Trigger I will get over with those beers, he must have one helluva thirst by now
Once again, many thanks
Wayne

Yes it was blue and absolutely stunning.
In terms of the beers can I claim a pensioner discount?
Is Trigger still at Mareham le Fen and still busy?

I registered on the forum a few years ago when the 1978 550 K3 was going to be a winter project. Anyway, I'm retired now and it will be a retirement project. (Trigger helped me out with a cam tensioner and I still owe him a beer)
I spoke to a guy at Waltham petrol station yesterday (15th Sept) on a beautiful 550 Super Sport and he suggested I have a look, so here I am.
Based in Louth, Lincolnshire, I had a 550K3 back in the late 70's and it took my girlfriend (now wife) and I on a cracking tour of Europe, hence the emotional desire to renovate the £390 unrecognisable K3 that became available a few years ago and now sits in many pieces in the attic.
If the guy from the petrol station makes himself known, I wouldn't mind meeting up again.
Current bikes are Ducati Multistrada and 916.
Happy days.

Hello and thanks for replying, I'm afraid I don't get on line much so apologies for the delay.
I live close to Market Rasen, just round the corner from Willingham Woods (of the Wed bike night fame).
Happy to be involved with SOHC even though it may only be infrequently.
Thanks for the welcomes and offers of help and advice.
I don't doubt I'll be taking you up on them sometime.

Hello SOHC4
I'm a new member residing in Lincolnshire.
I have a 550 four K3 in many bits throughout the garage. It seemed like a good idea at the time as I used to ride one back in the late 70's.
I also have a Ducati ST2, a Ducati 916 and a Suzuki GSX1400
I don't do facebook or any other social media stuff and to tell the truth, I'm struggling with this a little bit, but we'll see where it goes.
Anyway best wishes and regards
