CB500/550 / Re: Can't fit rear brake in drum after fitting news brake shoes
« on: November 22, 2023, 09:31:45 PM »
I only have this photo of the shoes mounted. The packaging per earlier said specifically they should fit a 550F. So either Vesrah wrongly packaged 750 shoes in a 550 packaging or something else is amiss. But the shoes really are quite a bit longer than the other ones.

I only took this before I assembled the wheel with the old brake shoes for now. Can you guys make anything of this image?

You bought 750 ones which are bigger than 500/550 the middle part number should be 323 not 300

Really? I know this might be misleading, but even on the packaging it says it should fit my bike?

Thanks! It’s the only set I have been able to find that mounts the engine to frame. My own bolts is rather beat up, rusted and half of them not original. Is there any others sets you know of that could be an option?

Hey

I am buying this kit soon for my CB550F 1977. For the long bolts, I can choose between dome, full hex, nyloc or toothed flange. Which version would you guys recommend I go with? Which would be the most "correct" version?

I'd check the part number of those supplied against the manual.

Here is the part number of the Vesrah brake shoes: VB128S

And here is a picture where I have overlaid the new brake shoe on the old one. You can clearly see that the Vesrah shoe is quite a bit longer. No wonder it didn't fit into the drum.

So found out these are Vesrah brake shoes. And they fit perfectly in the actuator recess. So I guess they just aren't a fit in general, or that CMS sent me the wrong ones…

Hi Alex my new shoes I just fitted were a tight fit in the actuator recess, make sure they are seated properly, I would even take a file to the ends to make fit easier. And obviously make sure you have the right shoes.

Hey, thank for the input! Can you elaborate what the actuator recess is?

Hey all

Just installed new brake shoes from CMS bought specifically for my model. But after installing them, I can't make them fit into the actual drum. The brakes are fully retracted, but they just won't fit. Am I missing something here? Usually it goes in really easy and is actually slightly loose.

These are the brake shoes I bought: https://www.cmsnl.com/products/shoesetbrake-non-oe-kevlar_06430390405p/

And then I bought a new brake cam as the old one broke: https://www.cmsnl.com/products/camrear-brake_43141374000/

CB500/550 / Re: Original points for my Cb550F 1977
« on: October 24, 2023, 06:40:41 PM »
They raised the prices recently - I was a bit surprised to see them gone up like that as well.

The points I have right now can't be set so the timing is 100% on point. There is not enough sliding room for the points. I have been told that is typical for off-brand points, so that's why I want original points. Just gotta take that hit I guess.

Hey all

Got alternative points on my bike right now, and having trouble setting the timing. Wanted to install new original Honda points, as I have heard that would be way better.

Am I correct in assuming that it is item number 3 and 4 on this page, and I should go for the item that DOESN'T say "Alternative part"?

A CB500 and a CB550K is 290mm from the bottom rear engine bolt to the footpeg hanger bolt .
The CB550 F1, F2 is 300mm at the same measurement so, 10mm more  ;)

Amazing how 10mm can spoil all my plans for riding this summer!  :o

Not sure if this helps you, but this is what is with a system I bought (Attachment Link) to put on a 550f. Ive since changed my mind and am hoping it will go on the 500 Im currently working on.

Let me know. I don't think it will. For a 500, I think you need the bracket I have received. If all else fails in the communication with Delkevic, we can always switch brackets and rubber stops, as it would seem as if you have gotten the version I need, and I have the version you need :)

I have always ordered the one for the bike i am fitting it to. The strange thing with the Delkevic site, is if you put in CB500 Four if comes up with part number COM3299 but, HDR000B should be the same fitting for that style of pipes.
I have never measured up different frames to see if there is any difference on the foot peg location. I know Motad used to fit all but, the silencer on the Motad had a big slide adjuster on the silencer to position the bracket .

You will have to email Delkevic, send some pictures of your problem to find the answer

Mmh, I am getting HDR000B for the CB550F, but HDR000A for the CB550K. I wonder what the difference is between those two parts.

I will call them and try and get some answers.
