Interesting that bikes like the DOHC 750 and CB400N used the same size shells as the 1st CB750 and also for the DOHC that there is an extra size available  'Bearing E ... Blue'. I always knew that CBX1000 shells fitted the SOHC fours though.

Yes, you'd definitely need a "depth" hardened surface to run rollers or balls on, thats in comparison to plain bearing arrangement.

That would mean you could regrind a crank, does anybody know if the journals are hardened cos i dont

If needing treatment after grind, process like this available https://aalberts-st-heat.co.uk/tufftride-qpq#:~:text=The%20Tufftride%C2%AE%20process%20of,the%20characteristic%20black%20surface%20finish. Suitable for materials that can't accept nitride treatment.

My mate Graham Curtis refurbishes Honda cranks of the pressed together variety  (must have done at least 100) and I asked him about the depth of hardening on those. He reckons it's around 2mm on the crankpins  ... yes I know it's not a plain bearing crank but gives an indication.  He told me the crank parts are copper coated in areas where the parts are not hardened as part of the hardening process.

Honda always list alternate sprockets but they were designed with a ratio and yes, compared to british iron, they do seem to rev high BUT its higher up the rev band they give rated power, the 500 handbook says not to go out of the top of the red too often

There are many ways to paint candy garnet brown.
I once saw a trick with a metallic brown base and a candy gold top layer. It worked quite well although it was a bit to brown in my eyes.
Easiest is a green metallic base with a candy orange top.

I use sikkens paint for the base paint and a German company for my candies.

And yes - always do a layer of clear before starting lines and black.

well I might have to keep the set up then as a 15T and 35T ......... the running of the bike is fine now ..well near on anyway ..but the revs just seem to be so high :(

oh the other thing is I have been on the DSS and looked at Ashley`s parts list and they did do a 17T sprocket for the Bomber so it must have been able to run with a 17T ha

Have you considered that running 17/35 sprockets has dropped your revs for running speed and may be contributing to your running problem? It was designed to cruise at a certain rev range

Hi Bryan

Well I am using the bike so don`t want to take it off the road yet if you know what I mean......... so just wondered if someone has one already got one off that they could do a dimension check ?
