CB750 / Clutch drag
« on: May 29, 2016, 08:07:30 AM »
I've got a bit of clutch drag, not major but I can make selecting first a bit noisy!, before I start taking the clutch apart is there any value in adjusting the pushrod, I can't find anything about it in my Haynes manual, the lock nut below is very tight, but before I start using heat etc has anyone adjusted this with good results?, thanks Mark .

CB750 / PD carb query
« on: May 28, 2016, 02:50:36 PM »
Please could someone with PD carbs have a look at their No1 carb and tell me if there should be a small brass blanking plug or similar in the small hole in the side of my carb, it's in the centre of the photo below and you can see a light coloured vapour mark on the carb body just below it, my tickover dropped earlier today, I just squirted carb cleaner in the small balance pipes in the back of the carb and it came out of that hole, it's never done that before! 😀.

PS I can see the same feature on the No2 carb, squirting carb cleaner in No2 does not result in it coming out of the side, so the question now is should it?, are these holes vents to atmosphere to achieve a balance between the intake and atmosphere?, maybe?, confused at present.

CB750 / How do bikes know when to break?
« on: May 20, 2016, 08:35:54 PM »
I've done about 350 miles without issue , tomorrow I'm booked in for a dyno fuelling run, I start the bike tonight and it's running really rough, a quick feel of the pipes says No1 cylinder isn't firing, or hardly firing, all I've done in the last few days is take the carbs off and put them back on, and adjust the mixture screws, when I put the carbs back on No2 carb overflowed, I gave it a few taps with a screwdriver handle and it stopped overflowing, so I guess it was a sticking float/float valve, I had turned the mixture screws in a bit yesterday so just now I turned the No1 screw out half a turn, then tapped the No1 carb in case the float/valve was stuck and not letting fuel into the bowl, it ran rough for about 30 seconds then after giving it a few revs it's running fine and the No1 pipe has come up to the same temperature as the others , how does an inanimate object know to start playing up just when it shouldn't ??🙄, any thoughts on what the issue could have been, I'm thinking stuck float?.

Project Board / How to make pod filters work
« on: May 15, 2016, 01:08:19 PM »
I read that the reason pod filters give issues is that the don't smooth the air before it enters the carb so decided to fit velocity stacks inside mine, then I realised I already had a set in the stock airbox, so ref photos below I pulled some chinese pods apart, enlarged the hole in the plate to accept the rubber velocity stack from the stock airbox, glued the stacks into the plates using "sikaflex" the best adhesive know to man, strong as hell and remains flexible when cured, glued the filter back on to the plate then just clamped the whole assembly onto the bike as you would with the original airbox, the difference is marked, I thought it was running well before but now it's much smoother , has more power, picks up even better and has a dead smooth tickover , best couple of hours I've spent so far regarding modding the bike, the filters were about £20 for the set of 4, the velocity stacks came with the donor bike, so if you've got pod issues do as below, cheers Mark

CB750 / How hot should it get?
« on: May 07, 2016, 08:03:55 PM »
I have got a full fairing fitted and down pipes lagged, the tappet covers get too hot to touch after say 10 miles, is this normal?, I intend to fit an oil cooler but can't resist riding at the moment , I think we've got a probe thermometer somewhere in the darkest reaches of the kitchen cupboards, I was thinking of checking the oil temperature in the tank, does anyone know what the max acceptable oil temperature is for the 750 SOHC ?, cheers Mark.

« on: May 07, 2016, 07:44:15 PM »
Got my bike MOT'd etc yesterday, still got lots of bits to improve/change and a CR750 paint job is also required but so far so good, done about 70 miles and nothing has fallen off, not even me!, here's a couple of photos

CB750 / Battery question
« on: May 04, 2016, 07:20:33 PM »
I left my ignition switched on for about an hour (lights etc off) and found my battery had dropped to 10.2v, I put the multimeter across the terminals and watched it drop about 0.1v per minute, damn I've got a parasitic drain somewhere I thought, I took the battery off and it stated gaining power, put it on charge to 12.5v and it was stable, put it back on the bike switched the ignition on (lights etc off) and it dropped for a few seconds to 11.87v but then remained stable, so is the battery dying or have I got a drain somewhere ?, I'm confused  : ???

CB750 / Cb750K wanted!
« on: April 09, 2016, 02:48:53 PM »
A mate of mine wants to build a bike similar to mine, I've got a spare engine he can have (don't think I'll ever get around to doing the big bore conversion on it that I bought it for 😀) plus loads of bits so he needs one with a blown engine or similar, does anyone have a project bike that they want to sell?, cheers Mark.

Project Board / My new spray booth
« on: March 16, 2016, 06:03:55 PM »
I decided to spray my CR750 in honda race colours , red tank/seat and silver fairing, I'll change to the proper CR750 scheme later (and get it professionally done) , anyway it's too cold to paint outdoors so I built my own spray booth, and so far I've gotten away with it!, paint needs a polish with flour paper and paste when it's properly hard but not too bad so far, I'll have to wait til she visits her mom again to do the fairing 😀

Other Bikes / T250j
« on: March 16, 2016, 05:48:48 PM »
Here's my T250j , got it a while back as a non runner (took less than a minute to make it run, I don't think the previous owner was much of a spanner man), anyway here it is.

CB750 / Top tip
« on: February 27, 2016, 09:55:22 PM »
Not SOHC related, but for those on the forum that also run 2 strokes;
When heating your baffles to cherry red with a blow torch to burn off carbon don't forget milliseconds later and pick the baffle up, it will be very painful and remove your thumbprint !😵

CB750 / Dry your bike for less!
« on: February 04, 2016, 06:29:05 PM »
If you are like me and can't resist riding through the winter and therefore having to wash all the crud off when you get home here a top tip, don't buy a dedicated bike blower for £80+, get a pet blower on eBay for around £50, they are exactly the same, just sayin.

CB750 / Not a SOHC question!
« on: November 28, 2015, 08:20:10 PM »
Not a Honda question but I'm looking for a bit of advice, I have fitted second hand hi level exhausts to my T250 but one of the exit pipes is slightly bent so I can't get the baffle in cos it won't line up with the support plates further inside the silencer, I've got a butane blow torch, do you think that will get the pipe hot enough for me to be able to bend it straight with an extension bar ?, the exit pipe is quite thin gauge steel approx 50mm O/D.
