I’ve stripped the 400 engine down today ready for the rebuild, I’m a bit concerned about the amount of end float on the crankshaft, the car engines I’ve done in the past had thrust washes on the crank to eliminate this but the Honda engine has nothing. There is no noticeable wear on the crank or the casings but when the crank is pulled from side to side by the stator rotor there’s movement and a definite clunk, the points plate was removed when I tried this, any ideas ? Thanks

Cars have thrust bearing to resist clutch operation to push the crankshaft along it's axis, doesn't exist on these engines and there are none.

Yeah that makes sense
