Title: 2 questions regarding exhaust and brake caliper
Post by: horror on April 16, 2010, 10:51:15 AM
Hi there

The diaphragm in the front brake resevoir I have had turned to goo whilst the bike sat with no fluid in it. I think the goo has oozed into the master cylinder.
david silver seems to have 1 month waiting list on this part.
I whonder, does anybody know weather it's ok to use a front brake resevoir/lever/master cylinder off any other bike? For example a honda 200 benly.
Cheers

Also, would an exhaust from a cb 500 or 550 fit onto the 400 four? or are the diameters and spacings different?

Cheers thanks

Hi, Not sure on the brake caliper / master cylinder side other than I know that the cylider needs to move a given quantity of fluid so using something off a similar bike could well work with the standard caliper. Personally I'd scan ebay and try breakers for the right part. Exhaust wise the spacing between ports is different, and I think the headers would be longer on a 500 as the engine is I'm pretty sure taller which would leave lots off messing at the least, not sure on diameter of pipes.

Piece you need is same on all the Honda fours so a used one should be about and no the 500/550 wont fit

I have spare diaphragms/bellows for sale...or do you want a complete master cylinder (minus lever) which I also have (

I got the diaphragm for mine from DS.
whilst gouging out the rubber goo I realised it has oozed into the cylinder. then the rubber boot part slit and came off.

I could get a repair kit for mine but thats 30 quid. then it's 30 quid for a complete aftermarket unit.
I know where I can get a 250 or 200 one for less and was hoping to do it on the dirt cheap.
I may come to you for that master cylinder, Does it have the guts in it?
