Title: YSS shocks?
Post by: Mikep328 on August 19, 2023, 10:24:57 AM
Anybody know anything about YSS shocks?  TEC no longer seems to offer the 400 shock though they still list it.  YSS shocks are available at the correct (I think) length.

Also, were the original shocks chrome with chrome springs or black with chrome springs?

I know the original shocks were entirely chrome whatever brand they were.

I've fitted YSS emulators to my old sv650, really high quality stuff for the price.

Like TEC, YSS apparently does not make them now either - at least in chrome/chrome.  So I was mistaken about them being available.   I ran across Legend Motorcyles https://www.legendmotorcycles.com who verified they do have chrome/chrome shocks for the 400.  .  Anybody have experience with them?

OK, Thanks!  Guess I'll steer clear.

Legend are a very good company usually. I've bought quite a bit from Dan and never had a problem

I must have just been unlucky, but then again maybe fate intervened, because my broken one was fixed by a welder for just £5.00, the same guy who just un-ceased my brake calliper for free!

Yes, they sent me the wrong main stand, by the time I discovered this I'd cleaned it up and repainted it too! :o

He doesn't sell second hand parts or centre stands for any SOHC's.

Based on the additional input I've reversed my decision and will order shocks from them.  We're going to the Isle of Man/Manx GP for a week so I'll place the order when we return.

Never fitted any of those 400 four shocks from Legandmotorcycles.
Did fit some CB750 ones he sells a couple of weeks ago and the only problem i found was the top eye mount was a different diameter with the collar in the shocks. As with any aftermarket parts it required a little fettling and had to remove the top mount and fit the rubbers from the original shocks.

I see that DSS has chrome/chrome shocks for about 2x the price of the Legends.  Are the DSS shocks actually better shocks to justify the higher price?

I've been using Ikon 7610-1296 SP8 on my CB750F1 for the last 5 years after first wasting 170 quid on Jap made DSS supplied shockers that started to leak after a year when the warranty expired.

I got myself these for my CB750- https://www.suspension-store.com/YSS_RD222-335P-02-18
- the Koni 76f-1302 ones that came on it were shorter than stock, so it was sitting too low on the rear plus made it much harder to get on the centre stand, as well as sitting near vertical on the side stand.

They seem fine, they were the correct diameter for the top mount, but they were tight against the chain guard. The coil spring seems to be a looser coil than in the pics, but it doesn't bother me. It rides nice enough

I got IKON shocks directly from the factory in Australia. They were shipped with one spring upside down - with reference to the other one as it seems you can mount them either way.

That said, even mounted as they came, they were good.
