Duff switch? Or muck in the brake line restricting pressure to the switch?
Just been and tried mine and the brake light comes on with little pressure at the lever.
I may have a spare switch kicking around somewhere but would need to have a search for it.

Yes, looks a nice bike.
What's with the throttle cables, they look to have a bit of excess length in them!

If you only need the one then I would have thought an email to the place in Holland to see what they would charge for carriage would be worth a shot, they only quote 7.50 Euros for the part.

Welcome from me too Rob.
It must have been around 1979, so that's 38 years ago, that I first rode a 400/4 (my younger brother's).
Took me until 2014 to get my own though!
He also has a [much modified] one on the road and another more original one awaiting rebuild, plus several other bikes in various states.
Oh, and I don't know where the picture of your 400/4 is/was, I can't seem to see it.

There is one here: https://www.mgparts.nl/product/honda-cb400f-kettinggeleider-23132-333-010-guide-primary/
If you need two then maybe buy this one and use as a pattern to follow orcadian's suggestion.

Here's a used one if it's any use, don't know what carriage would be.

Wiring harness sounds right. Is it part 1 on this diagram?

My lid is a copy from DS which is supposed to be exactly the same shape as the original.
At its thickest point (centre rear) the lid is 17.5 mm high overall.
As the lid is curved both across the top and front to back I'm not sure if this is the size you are looking for.
Doubtless you will say if you want a different measurement!

Following on from the above, once you have the Part Number (which you did, as you have the Parts List) then try doing a Google search on the number.
It doesn't always work, but often you get some useful results.
Here's one; not cheap (although the cheapest I have seen) but this part seems to be in short supply:

Looking at a couple of wiring diagrams the two brown wires seem to be joined within the connector anyway, so that sounds correct.
How did you decide which wire to connect to which with your new switch? Colour coding wouldn't necessarily make sense with an aftermarket switch.
If you look at a wiring diagram in a Shop Manual there will be a diagram showing the internal connections made in the various switch positions.
If you don't have a Shop Manual you should find one here: http://www.sohc.co.uk/index.php/topic,8884.0.html.
You need to find out the equivalent for your switch - I would have expected to get this information with the switch - and connect your wires accordingly.

.... Ashford Chroming (CB750 luggage rack) chroming OK but not as good as RS. Mark @ RS prefers the simpler parts as he declined to do the luggage rack
I followed a recommendation and had my rack rechromed at Classics & Chrome in Hinckley, Leics; see earlier post in this thread.
It's OK but there is still some signs of pitting around the joints. They said this was due to being unable to get in to these areas to polish the part properly. Other than that the work seemed good and I would probably try them again if I had more work that needed doing.
Having said that I seem to recall some places would not touch the job because of the problems in preparing well - one place wanted to undo all the welded / brazed joints and dismantle the rack to its component parts so they could polish all the pieces properly (an offer which I predictably declined ....).
It does make me wonder what sort of tools they use to do the prep - surely something smaller and hand-held would be able to better get into the awkward to reach places.

I was looking at the wiring diagram in the CB 500 & 550 Shop Manual in Ash's Dropbox (P144 of manual is CB500 K2 diagram).
I have no idea how to export a single page of a pdf file though!

Black wire looks to be switched live, and from the wiring diagram only the front stop light switch appears to be plugged in to a double connector so maybe a spare connection there.
If you are planning a socket near the handlebars what sort are you intending to use? Presumably it needs to be weather proof.

Hello and welcome from me.
I had an AS3 for a while many years ago when I was a student, quite a fun bike as I recall.
Also been catching up on your other posts, good luck with the rebuilds.
