I have just had a visit from the local Plod. They tell me my 400/4 was used as a getaway bike on Monday in a bank robbery somewhere (they wouldn't tell me where). I said there was no way my bike was there on that day. They asked what I was doing that day, I told them I could provide an alibi as to my whereabouts. At one stage they even asked if I would go to the police station to answer more questions, I said yes, if it helps. Now this conversation was going on in my front room. Not once did they ask if my 400 was here, so I said, would they like to see my bike ?. They looked at each other, a bit puzzled and said yes. So I took them through to the conservatory and showed them the bike. First of all they were very apologetic and then one of the cheeky young upstarts said I could have easily taken the bike apart between then an now !!!! My bike is in bits and has been for weeks. If they had known how bloody long it had taken me to strip my bike and start putting it back together (an awful long time, well weeks anyway), they would have know the bike could not have been anywhere other than here. They have now left but before they went, I did asked them if they knew the top speed of a 1978 400/4 Honda and did they know if they were regularly used by criminals as getaway bikes.......No reply from them, well I never. :o :o :o

If it wasn't true it would be laughable, would you really use your own bike registered to your own address.
Idiots ;)

That's why we have to be careful when posting photographs on a public site.
Crim #1: "We need a false plate for the getaway bike"
Crim #2: "Just Google 'red motorcycle' and see what comes up"
Witness: "It was a red motorbike with XYZ123 in the registration"
Cop #1 (types 'red motorcycle XYZ123' into PNC): "Aha! Gotcha!"
I'm not saying that that's the way they got your plate Julie, but my daughter is a cop and she says thats exactly how it goes.

... and at her graduation parade at the Hendon college, there must have been over a thousand cops all in the same place at the same time.
Now that's scary!

and will you divi up the swag ??
all donations etc !! :) :) :) :) :)

Yes Steve, I do realise how simple it is for someone to 'clone' a vehicle. I'm sure I have never put a pic of number plate in public domain but someone may have done in the past. Was trying to put pic of said getaway vehicle on here but can't get it under 1000 whatsits, whatever thay are.
-
So the idea is to use a valid number plate so... you don't flag up on ANPR, is that it?

Oh yes John, handfulls for everyone. But before I do I must go to work, as a Nurse, not a bank robber !!!. Mind you, would they ever suspect a bank rober in a Nurse's uniform riding a 400/4?............... now theres a thought :D :D :D
-
Female in a nurse's uniform on a 400/4. Doesn't scream bank robber to me. Christmas and birthday is what springs to mind :P

Yep.
Also helps if the vehicle and colour are correct (ie blue Ford Focus or red motorbike)

They were ok actually Steve, polite and just doing their job. Would have been different if it were the other police force we have here, the British Nuclear Constabulary. Due to the Nuclear power station they patrol here also and have guns which scares me a bit. Never had a problem with them either though, they always stop for a natter and the odd cuppa. But they all look about 12 years old !!!!!!!

Oh now that's a proper coffee table you've got there, even if it obscures the TV a bit ::)
You've removed the chrome nuts on the end of the rockers. What's going on there?

Scary Julie.. but sounds to me that you won't suffer fools and can handle the situation if you can cope with A&E, though.
Best bit of kit I have ever seen in a conservatory BTW :)

They are in my box of bits to polish with my dremel. They are done actually, just not put back on yet :)

Am I missing something ref keeping the 'plates off a public domain? Ie, Adsa, B&Q, Woolies car parks are a place to spot bikes too... cripes, you can even now get their frame numbers if so inclined. So why the concern over virtual domain versus car parks???
-
I think I agree with Lobo on this one, our plates, frame and engine numbers are nearly always in the public domain, it's just that in the virtual world, the scumbags can find a suitable clone from the comfort of their stolen leather armchairs. Long before t'internet a friend had his bike ID stolen while he was at an auto jumble. He knows that because it was the only place he went before it went bang and needed another 2 year restoration. Even car VIN numbers are viewable through the corner of the front screen.
-
I do actually agree with what you are both saying. On a bike everything is totally visible. What happened this morning could have happened anywhere but the fact it was not local to me, I would assume, suggests no one has actually crawled over my bike to get the VIN numbers. I just feel safer with me not advertising my bike details on interned for all to see.
