CB750 / Re: Removal of 1970 - 1971 Steering Locks
« on: December 14, 2019, 05:46:16 PM »
Glad you have raised the subject as I too have a steering lock that the replacement ignition key doesn't fit. Not sure, but I understand from other posts on here that the lock can be removed if you have the key and keys can be ordered against the number stamped on the lock. Trouble is, you can't read the lock number without a key. Hence, others have drilled the lock out and ordered a new lock and key. You may also be able to find matching steering lock and ignition lock (same key operation). Difficult to see how a lock can be drilled out with any finess (given both its awkward location - not a problem for you - and that you are not drilling a solid piece, but a group of loosely assembled parts). Hopefully others can provide details and experienced advice.

CB750 / Re: 1970 CB750 BATTERY WARNING DECAL
« on: December 14, 2019, 12:12:42 PM »
Thanks again Guys. 'the-chauffeur's' picture of the helmet holder is particularly revealing, my 1970 USA frame number 103****, doesn't have the hook to hold a helmet on the rear seat support - yet Piki's site offers: HONDA CB750 FOUR K0 WARNING DECALS KIT that includes two yellow 'HELMET HOLDER' labels. I guess different markets and changes in the production run produced some versions that had the hook. Seems I don't need the HELMET HOLDER decal then. Perhaps the battery label goes on the inner rear mudguard (too big to sit anywhere else), but not sure if it should be there at all on this edition.

Thanks for the comments so far. There are a number of ebay adverts offering decals for the K0, but are they correct. For example, some decal sets include a yellow "HELMET HOLDER" decal - I don't hink it has a helmet holder, unless it's the hook on the seat catch - would be grateful for confirmation or correction. As with the battery warning sticker it seems difficult to get an authorative reference.

Thanks, know this site well, usually very helpful, but can't see any appropriate 'Mark' listed on the relevant diagrams.

I don't think the USA 1970 CB750 came with a battrery warning label and that they first appeared on the K1. I could be wrong - there's always a first time  ;). If so, perhaps one of you knowledgeable Gents or Ladies would identify the correct design and location (Inner rear mudguard, top of frame or elsewhere).

CB750 / Re: CB750 - 1970 - Top Yoke - Advice Needed
« on: November 27, 2019, 06:14:39 PM »
I understand it is not uncommon (possibly due to heaving 500 lbs onto centre stand through leverage of wide bars?). My original yoke was cracked and replaced with replica on purchase from DS. A contact was going to attempt an alloy weld repair of the original. I don't know if that was successful.

James, thank you kindly. Someone that does what they say is a rarity today - ever thought about being a politician?  ;D

Seriously, I appreciate your effort.

Bike looks good too.
Cheers
Steve

Hi James,

Happy to wait until you reach the back of your garage - I may be picky, but patient!

Whilst you are there, perhaps a snap of the oil gallery bolt (right side , top of crankcase, just behind cylinder block). Not sure if this should be chrome, satin or matt?

A long shot, but what do the tool kit points file and feeler gauges look like?

Waiting - Out.

Thank you all, much appreciated.

Nurse Julie, Good point. Mine's a US model and the best reference to hand for correct wording is John Wyatt's book, where page 38 provides a photo (copy attached) of his restored US model that includes 'designed' as opposed to 'manufactured'. Hopefully, the aficionados on this site will be able to confirm. Ideally, a photo from an unrestored 1970 USA model would provide irrefutable evidence.

Rob62, thanks for the photos. The original is interesting, but 4-years on the wording may have been amended. Piki's work looks amazing, I may well seek him out, if correct wording for mine can be established.

Seabeowner and Bryanj, The CB750 in David Silver's museum appears to be a US model. On inquiring about the decal with DSS, I received the following reply, "I can see the warning label you mean because we have one on the CB750K0 in our museum. However, unfortunately, there is no part number for this in the parts book.

Anybody out there with an unrestored 69/70 CB750 USA who could help? [ Guests cannot view attachments ]

CB750 / CB750 K0 SWINGING ARM STICKER/DECAL
« on: November 22, 2019, 10:27:29 PM »
I'd be grateful if anyone could help me find a NOS sticker/decal for the swinging arm of my 1970 CB750 K0. It should sit atop the right side arm warning against modifying the exhaust - as if we would. Please correct me if I'm mistaken, but it seems the correct sticker should read "This Honda exhaust system is designed to eliminate excessive noise..........", whilst the items on ebay read: "This Honda exhaust system is a manufactured single unit designed to eliminate excessive noise.............". I have ask DS, but no luck.

Yes I am picky, grateful for any help.

CB750 / K0 CORRECT MIRRORS
« on: November 05, 2019, 08:52:34 PM »
When did the handle bar mirrors change from Acorn nut adjustment to friction swivel ball? The Parts Catalogue indicates that all K0s had Acorn nuts, but maybe it was only the early models? Mine is a May 1970, Frame No 1036***.

CB750 / Re: CB750 K1 Tool Kit?
« on: October 31, 2019, 05:17:51 PM »
You may already have a list, but if it helps the K0 User Manual lists the tool kit items as shown in photos attached, perhaps the K1 does also? Probably isn't too different.

CB750 / Re: TORQUEING REAR AXLE
« on: October 21, 2019, 04:10:19 PM »
Just to complete the story. A rear axle wheel nut tightened to 67 ft/Lbs can readily be removed with a size 10 shoe and the standard tool kit hex spanner with extension. Just undo the footpeg nut a few turns.
