Title: 400/4 sump gasket
Post by: Chris whit on September 09, 2019, 10:36:44 PM
Hi guys , noticed I’ve got a very slight oil leak from the sump gasket, is it possible to drop the sump without removing the engine .

Make sure it is the sump gasket that's leaking, a few years back I changed mine 3 times and still had a leak but eventually found it was either the oil pump, starter motor or gear change lever seal that was leaking (can't remember which now 🙄🙄). The oil was running down and along the line of the sump gasket making it look like it was that what was leaking.

Gear change seal sounds favourite to me.
Gold star 🌟 for Ken...yes, you are correct, it was the gear change seal on mine but the other 2 got changed in the process of diagnostics 🙄🙄🙄

If you pressurise the crankcase, using compressed air on the breather pipe,  a leaking gear change seal will show up.
