Fantastic find. I did one of those about 8 years ago and sold it 4 years later for what I thought at the time was a huge profit. The one I should have kept, today it is worth about three times what I sold it for. Will cost a packet to restore if the engine is not good though.

We resorted to bar-end mirrors (see avatar)

Its a one-owner bike with complete historie, back to purchase and all services documented.
Frame and engine numbers are in those documents.

PO passed away so the bike was for sale.

Bike has 35 tkm.

Sitting for 35 years, would you open the engine and replace chain, rollers tensioners in any case?

Pour a little oil down the spark plug holes, leave it for a day or so - put it in gear and rock it (with plugs out) to make sure it's turning and not seized. If ok, then change the oil and filter and examine the contents, looking out for 'bits'. If ok, charge the battery and turn it over in short bursts without plugs in to get a good coating of new oil on the internals - then new plugs, clean the points, reset the gaps and fire it up and go from there I'd suggest.

Good to see another UK/Euro spec Z900 A4 coming to light, here's mine:

I may well be looking for a UK spec CB750K1 to replace the one I had in the mid-70's - here's my old 1971 K1 in Richmond Park in 1977 which was sadly written off (not by me) in 1989 - the eagle eye'd members will notice it had been fitted with chrome headlight stanchions:

Thanks for input. Engine and carbs are free. Yours look great. Euro spec is double disc, long rear fender and seat belt?

Looking for a tank with genuine paint in good condition.

Yes, some Euro countries, plus the rear indicators are fitted on chrome brackets on the rear grab rail, unlike the US model which fits them to the frame.

If engine is free take cam cover off and pour some oil over the cams before starting, this will ensure the cam lobes are lubed on start up process.
I have a 78 thou as Well as my little 350/4.

Post by: Sgt.Pinback on November 28, 2018, 06:49:56 AM
Yes. Good thing is, that can be done without taking out the engine  :)

Menno: any chance to pull the dents and make a “smart” repair where the rust spot is?

A bit of voodoo, magic?

Will do a “soft” resto (or clean up) and try to keep as much genuine substance as possible.

What are the other bikes that fall into such a category?

Eamon really wanted me to buy an RRN FireBlade that a guy in Maidenhead was selling. It was good and a good price but I didn’t have the space. This was 10 years ago .

So what else will be astonishing the auctioneers in 30 years when we are all long gone and 70s bikes are treated like 40s bikes are now?

Of course, we’ll have young ‘uns like James to keep up the tradition

Well, I hope to still be around in 30 years even though I'll be 91, but I may have given up riding by then......... ;D

Who knows what'll capture the interest of classic bike buyers, maybe the first generation FireBlades, here's mine which will have to make way for a K1 one day - it's a UK 93 RRP:

Below sandcast, more like a K0.

A good 73 Z1 is around 17 t EURO. At least here in Germany.

In UK ... no idea.

Moonprice, I guess (as GBP 45.000 for a sandcast  ::) ::))

I will be looking at a Z900 A4 hopefully in the New Year (as thats the one I had back in the day) if my better half allows but I just wonder how these prices will hold up in the fullness of time when those of us at a certain age group move on. Will they still be in such demand with the younger generations in such numbers I wonder?

About the tank, I know someone in Germany who can get the dents out.
The rusty spot might be a bit of a chalenge since the paint is faded a bit but I could give it a try if you want to.

Bike came in on Saturday (with lots of ducuments, even the purchase order and purchase invoice)

On first view I will need the following parts:

- tank in genuine paint

- number 3 (lower right) exhaust (with "........  76" stamp)

- master brake cylinder

- right handle bar switch

- rear seat grip

Just in case somebodey has or knows somebody who does.

Try to keep as original as possible, so try to avoid replica parts.

Depends on the engineer examing the bike.

When you get a 30 year old that never saw an old nike like this, it can be time consuming.
With the Z1-R it was done in 10min. An old fart that had a Z1000R back in the days.

Just learned from the A4 parts book that German and French A4 had those chrome mirrors. Didn’t knew that because you never seen them here with those mirrors but I wondered why that bike came with them.

Two steps ahead, one step back.. decided to have the pipes and the front fender re-chromed  and replace the rear stay with a better one I found.

That is the rear stay to be sold.

Is that the German only version with those blinker ears or European market?

Thanks.

So the (european) parts book is wrong.
Shows that stay with ears for Itlaly only and the one withour ears for UK, Germany, France etc.

Should say the other way round.

Is that because they have no use for indicators in Italy?

Did you know Mercedes and Audi are saving a fortune not fitting indicators as their drivers never use them!
