CB500/550 / CB 550 K3 carbs
« on: September 09, 2021, 08:45:18 PM »
I have asked this question elsewhere, but this may be the right place. Can anyone tell me what are the best carbs I can look for to go on my 1977 550 K3, we can’t get the PDs to idle or run smoothly on no 2 and I understand there is a better alternative. (Or is there someone who can suggest a fix for the PDs?)
Thanks
PS. The info I’ve been given is “it’s the very fine fixed idle circuit that seems to be blocked, I can’t get in there as the jets are pressed in. Tried air, ultrasound and solvents”

If you would care to log on to www.carpe-tdm.net as a guest you will be able to read my epic saga
concerning my 550 and it’s “restoration” Hopefully it will save anyone else making my mistake. It is in the Hyde Park Inn section

New Member Introductions / Hello again
« on: June 11, 2020, 07:56:37 PM »
Good evening all, it seems I joined this forum at some point in the past, though I can’t remember when! I have finally received my 8,000 mile 1977 CB550 K3 back from a 4 and a half year restoration ( don’t ask! I thought I was being generous when I gave him 2 years to do it!) Anyhow, I originally got this bike as a swap for a (knackered) Suzuki GT500 way back in 1979, I rode it home and never really rode it again until I decided to get it restored. My father had ridden it for a while in the eighties but it sat in his garage for decades until his death in 2012, then I had it in my garden for a few years. Not had a chance to ride it since it came back today but I’ve found out it doesn’t seem to want to tick over without choke, the restorer had left by then! Hopefully I’ll get a ride on it in the next couple of days and will report back, just wanted to say hello.

CB500/550 / Help-Carb cleaning!
« on: May 21, 2008, 09:30:44 AM »
Can anyone tell me the procedure to follow when cleaning the carbs on my 550 k3 without disturbing the balancing or removing more than necessary. Is there anything I need to buy in preparation that experience shows I will definitely need?
Thanks

CB500/550 / Hello everyone
« on: May 13, 2008, 02:57:23 PM »
Hi all, after getting found out immediately on the US site (for using the word petrol!) I was directed to the UK site. I'm just trying to get my 78 550k3 back on the road, it has been MOT'd and serviced a few times over the years but hasn't really been used much since about 1981 (usual story-family, car, more sense!) so less than 8000 miles on the clock. Problem is now it won't start and petrol just runs out of the carb overflow pipes, plugs stay bone dry.I presume this means a carb stripdown and clean - unless anyones got a better idea? Looking forward to getting all your words of wisdom/encouragement/empathy over the coming months (years?)
Chris
