Kawasaki 2 strokes are still very popular today, I'm guess that you have a H1b ?

It's 1971 so my guess is it's an H1a?

Yes, like the Bridgestone 350 but not as sophisticated. Pretty devastating performance but so careful with modern Ethanol based fuel.

So sorry that this isn't Honda 4 related this time but I now have a couple of projects that I could only have dreamed about and may bring good memories for those who knew the bikes first time around.

First is a cache of parts to build a complete new Avenger A7. This was a 350cc disc valve twin with an amazing turn of speed. I already have one but this is to build what is effectively a new bike. Parts are NOS or (like frame) professionally restored better than new. Should have the parts in December and will post pics from what I hope is a successful assembly.

Also found a similar parts cache for a 1971 H1 triple. I just can't believe it. I'm at the back end of my biking life but the opportunity to do this assembly and then ride these amazing bikes is beyond belief.  Pics will be forthcoming.

The bike is now registered as a Dresda 500 and the V5 is on the way, I'm doing a few cosmetic bits and pieces over winter and will try to use it next year when the weather warms up a bit.

Well done and good luck Bryan, the more of these beautiful classics we can keep on the road the better

Very nice bike Julie and the decals are nice. I may be able to use those with the Dresda ones which are smaller.

This is about the finished article apart from cosmetics and a few small jobs. Runs well and I think with a bit more hard work it can be made into a really good little bike. The original Dresda was a production racer but I didn't want a fairing and clip ons and tbh it looks OK for me, far better than I expected and I've learned so much, like don't ever start such ridiculous restorations of scrap heaps for which there are only engine parts available.

I have to put some decals now on the tank and side panels. I have some Dresda ones from DD but can anybody give me some thoughts on what would make it look nice but more on the understated side. I believe that to match the engine they should be silver?

Many thanks

The biggest loss in biking was when 2 strokes became environmentally unacceptable and when the rise and rise of ultra powerful muscle bikes changed biking tastes. As you say, the lightness and power curve make them handle brilliantly and accelerate really quickly while making a sound that is biking heaven. They also develop riding skills that aren't needed on big 4Ts like having to stay in a sharp and well defined power band even when cornering. Until last year I had an RS250 Aprillia which after years of 4Ts I rode very badly until getting back into riding it. Now I use a Kawasaki Avenger 350cc which is much kinder as the disc valves give torque down to below 5k rpm.

My advice is carry on using your NSR regularly, they are a very precious memento from a different but excellent time. Lightweight and middleweight bikes were superb and are ideal now but they need to be the very fastest ones because the average speed of traffic now can be high and modern cars stop on a tanner.

The reason that the clutch was stiff and the push rod had been broken was because it had ridiculously stiff springs in the clutch.

What a beautiful bike. Due to Uni and working abroad I missed a lot of things that happened in the UK. This was one, it is superb.

This is a picture of the bike that seized badly. This was when I bought it but it looks much better now. The second one is completely apart in plastic containers at the place of the lad who I bought it from. He is going carefully through the parts manual to make sure every bit is there and he won't let me take it until he is sure. All I can say is that apart from the donor frame and cases to make sure the numbers match, all parts are new. The seized bike is very much the precursor of the triples but the other bike is an early one which is much more super 6 style with rounded tank and chrome tank panels. I'll post some pictures as I assemble it.

The bike pictured here is actually faster than the triple that followed it and would eat any of the Brit 650's around at the time. Amazing bikes and to say that I love them would be an understatement. They didn't sell because the fall in the Wilson pound made them ridiculously expensive at the time. Almost standard ones lapped the Island at around 90mph in the old days.

Good news. Some pics would be good.
Is Dave still building Triton's, I thought he retired from building complete bikes when he moved down to Rusper? He attends Kempton Park sometimes.

L120, will try to post a couple of pictures, just have to remember how. Dave and Russell are still keeping themselves busy although orders for new built bikes are few and far between. They're both amazing characters of a disappearing type [ Guests cannot view attachments ] and am so glad I can call in and see them now and again. They have been amazing help to me but they're always getting me in trouble either buying or restoring lost causes.

The Avenger is running too as of today. Like a dream too not like the invalid it was when I bought it last year. I also bought the other one I mentioned and am waiting for the lad to make sure that every part is there. He has a couple of "new" H1's in similar shape with all parts either NOS or restored original.
