I've read about using SIMVHT31D paint with recommendations to bake it on in the oven.
Just need to know the cooking instructions - is it put in oven when wet (fire hazard?)or touch dry ?
In a preheated Fan Oven - what temperature is needed - for how long ?

After spray, leave in a warm temp for at least 24hrs. Then place in a oven and increase temp slowly to 200c and once the temp is up, leave at 200c for a hour and half.

What engine parts are you painting ? Make sure they are free of any oil, inside and out. Oil stains on the inside of the cases smoke, and turn the paint. Oil or any grease on the painted area will bubble and lift paint. Prep is the key to any good paint finish ;)

Sorry to hijack this thread but i'm planning a top end rebuild on the 550 over the winter to cure the oil leaks.
I'm not going to open the bottom end but want to clean it up and paint it.
What are my options when it comes to curing the paint on the bottom half?

Your only real option is to let the heat of the engine cure it. But, the paint will not be very robust or as hard wearing and can chip. I do know someone that used a heat gun but the outcome was quite dismall, the finish was patchy and it wasn't as resistant as it should be to petrol etc.

At present I'm planning to paint the Clutch Cover & the front sprocket cover. BIL is giving me some old formula Nitromors paint stripper - I have cleaned the insides with Gunk at present to remove the light brown oil staining.

I find that giving them a per-bake also helps and a good wipe down of the painted faces with a proper paint shop de-greaser ;)
Paint them where it is warm and not outside on a very cold damp day.

If you are planning to cure the paint in the kitchen oven you need to ensure you have treated your o/h (and her best friend) to a luxury Spa weekend away at the same time to allow the fumes to dissipate before she arrives home. Oh, and you give her your credit card for a shopping trip whilst she's away just to be on the safe side!

Be carful curing barrels. I know someone who put them in the oven to cure. Opened the oven at the end and the barrel had dropped off the liners.
