I am running my engine in a rig before putting in the frame for good. I am about to balance the carbs but I am wandering, does anyone have any idea what the safe temperature to keep inside. i feel I may not have enough air flow while running . i sat a gauge on the rocker cover and it was reading 60C and rising. ???

CB750 / engine rig
« on: October 28, 2013, 08:05:14 AM »
Ok  I have made my engine rig, I just need to wire the starter and coils.
am I correct in thinking i need the following wires (I don't want the whole loom)
a switched Live to the Black/white on the coils as my ignition switch ( the coils wired to the points as normal)
a switched earth to the solenoid red / yellow

will this give the minimum to start and run the engine?

CB750 / head dowels
« on: October 19, 2013, 07:38:52 PM »
just finished my head build and found I put four new dowels and rubbers and new o rings on the inside bolts. after torquing the head in two stages putting the cam on and setting the tappets i was a happy bunny.
today I found a bag with two dowels in marked LH and RH Head. arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

what will happen if I run this engine?
I have it in a rig with the idea of running it then torquing the head run some more and if no oil leakes put into frame.

CB750 / rebuild engine
« on: October 03, 2013, 03:28:32 PM »
Well it is that time. the barrels have been re bored  for the +0.75 new pistons. the Guy in Antig motors in Gloucester said that the tolerance was quite tight in the book. 0.00004 - 0.00016

so before I begin I have a few questions.
do i coat the head gasket with anything before assembly?
any tips to stop a dreaded oil leaks?
wish me luck

Tricks & Tips / master cylinder clip removal tool
« on: September 10, 2013, 11:07:47 AM »
I read the different threads on here about stripping the front  master cylinder, my bike is a CB750 K6 but this will help most if not all.

I bent a piece of old round bar to about 80 degrees and when you push the piston down place this in where the lever goes and put the bolt bak in and it will hold the piston down allowing you more room to see and grasp that pesky cir clip

the close up of the thing in place

i ran v hot water over for several mins (in her in doors sink ;-))

the cir clip came out much easier than i thought.

and i used std straight cir clip pliers.
