Tricks & Tips / My 'home made' Cb750 K0/Sandcast alternator Sub-Harness
« on: January 07, 2011, 10:17:18 PM »

Here is a link to a pic of my K0 'home made Alternator sub-harness, Can anyone tell me if the sleeving on the neutral switch looks correct for Sandcast/early K0. It's different to the Yamiya one but I reckon the Yamiya one is not faithful to the original. ChrisR kindly sent me a picture of a used early one. This has taken me almost a month of research to find the correct materials. I could not use the multi way connector supplied By Vintage Honda Connections because it was different to the original, so I ultrasonically cleaned an old one which has not 'scrubbed up' too badly. His crimps supplied with the multi way were correct though and fitted perfectly into a genuine shell. the outer sheathing is rubber and the braided sleeving (two sizes) is silicone impregnated woven glass. The sleeving ends are covered with clear 3-1 ratio heatshrink tubing (tape on the original I think) and the neutral switch eyelet is covered in a Raychem heat shrinkable, adhesive lined  coupling sleeve.

Watch this space for a correct 'home made' replica braided battery earth lead. The Yamiya one is definitely incorrect and a very poor copy, in my view. The correct cable has soldered lugs and a braided outer - multi strand inner

This one looks correct though:

CB750 / MCM Jan 78 Article
« on: November 26, 2010, 09:43:37 PM »
Hi,

Somewhere in the dimmest deepest past I read that you can bead blast the CB750 exhaust heatshields to make them look like the satin chrome of the early K0/Sandcast bikes. I have a brand  new bright chrome set of these but seeing as DSS now charges 135GBP plus VAT for a pair!!!! I don't want to blast them unless I know its going to work out OK.

I seem to think it was in MCM Jan 1978, which I do have a copy of somewhere but in the deepest bowels of my loft somewhere.

CB750 / Oil pump O rings / cylinder head gasket seals
« on: October 13, 2010, 11:19:31 AM »
Hi,

I am sourcing 'O' rings to rebuild two Oil pumps I have. Are the originals Viton or Nitrile? If Nitrile are they 70 Shore A hardness?

( I am getting the small oil seal from David Silvers (the GoldWing type - Thanks for the info Bryan  !!) but the 15x2 AND 46 X 2 'O' rings are really expensive from Honda

Also I think the o rings to use a later head gasket on a non-knock pin K0 sandcast head are 14 ID x 1.5mm thick (Viton) Can anyone confirm this please?  Would a 'quad' ring be better, as I gather the unobtainium ones in the Honda bulletin were square section

Cheers !!! Ash

CB750 / Barrels and head painted or not?
« on: March 07, 2010, 03:58:24 PM »
This is really a message for SteveD. Do you know if Eamon's K0 has painted head and barrels or not, as I think it was part of the same batch of UK750 imported in Jan '70 as mine. I am getting mine bead blasted  shortly but unsure if they were originally painted or not.

Cheers
