You do have a good memory Hairy  :o :o. But yes, you have a point, backside goes numb on the 400 after a while. Mind you, it's luxurious against when I go on the back of friends R1. The pillion seat is so small and thin it's like sitting on a bloody Jaffa Cake  ;D ;D

The 400 is a good bike for distance. I have done Greece on a piaggio typhoon and a CD250, they never came back. Also done India and Kenya on a dominator and that is not much bigger than a CB400 four.

Ok,the bike would make it but I find that I seize up after about 150 miles !!!. Rode from Perth, Western Australia to Sydney about 20 years ago on a Harley, I doubt if I could make Perth, Scotland to Edinburgh without needing to stop 3 times to stretch the legs these days;D ;D ;D

It changes from page to page Julie ;D
Im not so sure about that Graham  :-\ :-\
Anyways, Wales looks beautiful, may have to send the old 400/4 up by TNT overnight to meet me there though  ;D ;D

Why? you not trust your workwomanship / workmanship.
I never doubt my capabilities or workwomanship Trig (I like that word), it's just a bloody long way from me on a piddling little 400

Welcome from the other end of the UK. Don't know the land side of West of Glasgow very well (only the Airport) but used to sail out of Inverkip quite often, beautiful place, fantastic sailing

How about planning to go round in a big circle ?. That would probably give more people a chance to just come along for a day ride or an overnight stay, or 2 days or whatever they fancy.

I am a little concerned with the phrase "Having never ridden before,"

that is why I advised going with standard,
I agree with Johnwebley on this one, as you havn't ridden before I would go with bog standard bars. Learn how to handle the bike properly first and then swap around if you still fancy it. Also, having not ridden a bike before, how will you know if its handling / steering right if you go away from the standard. I've tried all the different ones on different bikes over the past 35 years and even though comfort is important, it's what you feel through the bars that is more important to me.

Yes, stuck out in the sea in Kent, especially if you live where I do at Dungeness !!. I get a more accurate weather forecast if I watch the French forecasts than the local UK one  ;D ;D ;D
