CB750 / primary drive train rattle - CB750F2
« on: July 10, 2020, 12:42:39 PM »
reading on this site and elsewhere i know that the annoying rattle these bikes have tend to be associated with the carbs being out of sync. and the primary drive chain thrashing about at tickover.

i had this with the cb400f2 i have but most of the (worst of the) rattle has gone after i crudely synced them using a cheap set of gauges from ebay (but they are not very accurate and i suspect th carbs are not spot on or even that near if i am truthful !!).

having set the 750 up - tappets, ignition etc i am still having trouble getting it right and the rattle tis more than i can put up with. the main problem is that the engine 'hunts' so its prob. a mixture of sync and pilot (which is out 2 turns)

anyway, does anyone know of a mechanic or someone who specialises in the older bikes (plenty in my area who do the new stuff) in the n/w kent and se london areas- i'm in orpington so the nearer the better.

thanks

I use the diesel version of triple qx in my 750 as I once read that the additives for the diesel turbo are good for the old wet clutches

some of the reviews for the triple qx 10/40 diesel show it is an above average oil at a fair price.

anyone use oil additives in their engines?  from what I can understand they cannot be used in wet clutch engines  so I guess no but I thought I would ask.

anyone know where I can get the carb air box seal between the top and bottom parts of the cleaner - it usually sold fitted to the 'separator' plate (17230-405-305) but since mine is usable I only want the seal - or any suggestions what substitute I can use.

Anyone taken these apart?

Its not fair to say that I have to do this but as its now got a sticking float im toying with the idea of taking the whole thing off yet again and replacing (with second hand)  the throttle link bit – the plate where the cable nipple fits into and opens the throttle – as half of one of the tangs is missing and maybe replace the choke cam as well since it seems a bit worn.

Watching a demo on the internet it seems rather complicated for me, especially as I have never worked on one of these before other than to take the float bowls off!!

CB350/400 / Re: Uk Registration

;) not wanting to be a kill joy but to me the plate looks to big for the bike and i thought the cut off point for that colour plate was 1974
be sure you have insurance until your tax is up or the nice people at the DVLA will send you some nasty letters anyway enjoy riding
As long as its registered as Historic it can display black and white plates. This is a rolling entitlement as is the historic status.
as long as it's pre jan 1975 which this is so its as would have been originally fitted

CB750 / Re: 1970 CB750 BATTERY WARNING DECAL
« on: December 14, 2019, 11:11:13 AM »
Thanks for the comments so far. There are a number of ebay adverts offering decals for the K0, but are they correct. For example, some decal sets include a yellow "HELMET HOLDER" decal - I don't hink it has a helmet holder, unless it's the hook on the seat catch - would be grateful for confirmation or correction. As with the battery warning sticker it seems difficult to get an authorative reference.

might be worth getting a workshop manual (maybe https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/262731616823) if you don't already have one and assuming your going for a 'fresh from the factory' look.  I was given one for my 400f2 and its been invaluable - even has cable routing pics) but that's no to say a workshop manual will have decal locations so, as mentioned,  piki  is the way to go.

That’s Piki’s ebay shop

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I have no doubt he will know and be able to supply what is needed along with locations.

CB750 / Re: Frame numbers
« on: December 14, 2019, 10:58:23 AM »
I read somewhere (maybe on this site! - but may have been a usa site)  that the 'g' was also included for bikes in the uk (which I suppose you could, at a stretch, say are European market) but I also read that they start with a '2' frame number whereas mine also starts with a '1' - cb750g-100**** with both 'first reg' and 'first reg in the uk' as the same date (03/78) so must be a uk bike.

I have to say there is a lot of contradictory info out there.

If its a USA import it will have the date on the VIN plate. If its a 1st registered UK bike... it won't have the date on the VIN plate. Not sure but I don't think any European models have date on VIN plate.

I was looking at the 'pva' number on the label.  it may be a coincidence but mine is a 77 (reg78) and the number starts 77 - not thsat I know whet the 'pva' number is supposed to denote!!
No idea either but if it is the date of manufacture, it actually says 'date of manufacture' or similar and would be something like 10/77 being Oct 77 for example.

ok, in that case I defo do not have a date on it, just the frame number/cc/weight and a pva number.

CB750 / 1978 CB750f2 - air box
« on: December 13, 2019, 12:16:39 PM »
anyone know if its possible to get the rubber gasket which fits between the two halves of the air cleaner box.

from what I can see it only comes with the top - 17230-405-305 - mine is a bit perished but i'm ever hopeful of finding one without the top of the box.

Thanks, know this site well, usually very helpful, but can't see any appropriate 'Mark' listed on the relevant diagrams.

no, I went over it for the various models/countries and could not see one although I am guessing you are talking about the 'caution' decal like this https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HONDA-CB750-FOUR-BATTERY-CAUTION-DECAL-K0-K1-K2-1969-1972/202645092969?hash=item2f2e96ba69:g:xHYAAOxy4fVTDihO
although I notice they are not always the same being offered even for the same year/model of bike!!
