It was more than two years ago now but I do remeber trying to fit mine and it just did not want to fit flat so as to speak.
IIRC I took it off and put it back on again and it suddenly decided to fit after at least 6 or 8 attempts that seemed identical.

I might still have my old disassembly photos in my archive - I will take a look and post it if I find it.

I use ATF,

Basic Dexron,as my car used it,

Nice even,smooth feeling when riding,

When you say basic Dexron is that 1,2, or 3 all old specs pre- synthetics?

The newest ATF Dexron oil is backward compatable. Anything that took Dexron II will now take Dextron III.
All oils of the same grades are designed to be mixed as per industry standards.

That is true for use in an automatic gearbox - not sure if the different grades are the same viscocity though and what the temperature gradient might be?
I do know they have more plasticisers in the later grades - there must be however some performance differeances in the oil itself. Hard to find actual viscocity rating - might be 5W depends where you look some are a 5W/10.

I believe the use of ATF has now been superceded by the availabilty of bespoke fork oil.
I used Castrol 10W in my 400.

Back when the 400's were new there was not the variety of ATF's that there are now.

I can't really comment on how well the 10W oil performs as I have not done the mileage to give an informed opinion.

I'm with Roo here, run it get the pistons  to settle in a bit, it's amazing what some warming and cooling down of an engine can change.
If your dynamic timing is set a few miles will help you balance the carbs with more certainty as and when.

I do like a daft joke - I forwarded it on to my mate who is a Golfer - I suspect he thinks I'm daft enough to try it on a hot engine. ;D ;D ;D

In my 60 years on two and four wheels it has always been the oil switch - one day it might not be.

My neighbour panicked when his oil light started flickering on  his  newish Kia 4x4, the Kia agent could not fix it it for over a week, they advised him not to drive it
He sought my advice, he  took the vehicle to his normal none Kia garage who fitted a replacement for about £35.00. It fixed the problem. He was happy to pay even though it was still under the 7 year warranty so he could have use of the vehicle.

As Bryan has said the parts book is very good at identifying where things like O rings or oil restrictors fit.

As you probably know the block base gasket fits on the crankcase, the larger four block seal rings fit in the groove on the underside of the block. You will need to use red rubber grease on them so they stay in place when you fit the block over the pistons. You also have the fiddly part of fitting the cam chain tensioner blades. You might find it helpful to read that section in my 500 project thread (Page 35) or another members thread.

Using the search facility on this site will also list posts where a subject has arisen before so you can be read a variety of solutions & outcomes.

That's dreadful Dave now't worse that Hit & Run drivers - they don't seem to bother even if they hit a pedestrian.
Just a lack of integrity and values that seems so prevalent today.

The apparent  lack of everyday Roads Polcing is the start of something they will live to regret.
As a probationer you learnt to engage with the local population through stopping motor vehicles and talking to young drivers well meeting local criminals in the process.
My first arrest for a garage burglary was when I stopped a local lad in Clowne near chesterfield for driving through a short pedestrian tunnel.

I noticed that the wheels on his old Austin 1100 looked almost brand new, I was aware of a theft of wheels from a private garage. Duly arrested, invertigated, home searched and charged with Burglary - as my old Sergeant used to say most Burglars don't walk to a commit crime.

Could be an automatic OS update might be the cause.

Personally I wouldn't fit anything that could possibly lead to annoyance like blinded oncomers. I was raised with the proverb: what you do not want done to you, do not do to others.

I agree with your comments, nowt wrong with putting a moral stance in amongst the technical details.
A lot of current modern car LED lighting leaves a lot to be desired be it overly bright dip beams to side indicators that are hard to see in good daylight as some are very narrow. Might be legal but can still cause annoyance.

When we took our Sl for it's Mot a couple of years ago the tester at the MB dealership  failed it on the number plates digit spacing.
The combination of 4 letters & one  number were not mis-spaced to spell a name the plates were marked with the the plate manufacturer details plus the relevant BS code or whatever was the law 20 years ago when we bought the plates. It had passed it's Mot at the same MB dealer as it was since 2004.

Despite my protestations the tester would not re-consider the fail. IMHO he was applying the spacing rules for a modern 7 digit registration marks to a 5 digit plate incorrectly. I purchased a replacement set of plates online the - the only slight difference I could see was the gap between the first letter and the next number was marginally closer about 1/4" on the new plate. I was not charged for the re-test.

I believe it depends on the value that the exporter puts on the export certicate declaration.
