Misc / Open / Nectar and eBay
« on: October 10, 2024, 01:52:22 PM »
I noticed a few days ago my Nectar points weren't growing, eBay is the biggest source of them for me and I bet I'm not alone. Six weeks ago they changed the system (quietly it seems to me) to get Nectar points on eBay for your bike bits et al you first go to the Nectar site here: https://www.nectar.com/brands/588765
Click the shop on line button and at least for me it goes straight to eBay. Shop as normal and get your points.  ;) I don't see the point of the change though!  :-\

Humour / Community standards...

This is the curious 'Go on then Bill' slogan we had  across the ceiling of the JHQ Rheindahlen ( Germany) youth club in the 1960s and 70s. The story behind it is that it had started out as something else 🤪🤪until a more conservative parent came in and screamed loud enough to get it altered!

Misc / Open / Dodgy ignition barrel?
« on: August 17, 2024, 03:32:29 PM »
A problem I don't think I've had with the other thirteen bikes in my life is getting the ignition key to do it's job. However this past week on several occasions at an increasing rate I've got to twiddle about with the key to make the pilot light show up and starter button to work.  :o
I'm wondering if a whole new barrel may be a better option to taking the one I have in for pulling apart and fixing if possible. Anyone else had this sort of issue before?

CB350/400 / A steering lock stop issue.
« on: August 09, 2024, 05:37:42 PM »
While my bike was in the garage this morning the mechanic pointed something out to me I hadn't been aware of. The handle bars could reach the tank and it explains a tiny chip in the paint. The lock stops were present on the yoke but there was nothing to meet them on the frame, could I have broken something off down the line somewhere, issue is on both sides.

CB350/400 / New pattern clocks
« on: August 05, 2024, 05:39:36 PM »
I got myself a pair of new clocks, they are pattern but look really good if I'm to be asked and they come with new dishes and seals. I can get the originals restored in my own time. Thet cost £89.00 and £95.00 plus VAT from DSS, which is a lot cheaper than those which seem to be from the same source on Ebay.

CB350/400 / An unusual clutch cable failure?
« on: July 30, 2024, 08:00:11 PM »
Trust something like this to happen on the hottest day of the year  ::) I was riding quiet happily through the infamous territory of darkest Deptford in south east London when....my clutch cable broke. Oh great, I never had my smartphone that thankfully I didn't end up needing, but I still had to leave my bike in a place I wouldn't want to leave it, I would know I used to live in Deptford, and take a bus/tube journey home where I had a spare cable so I turned the matter around in a couple of hours. However the cable is only a few months old and hasn't been worked hard, there was no stretching or fraying you'd expect to see.
What had happened was a first for me, the cable had pulled clean out of the stop at the handle bar end, Chinese welding or something. No prizes for guessing where I got the cable from, that said I've never had trouble with DSS's clutch cables before.
Anyone else had this one before?

Misc / Open / Idiot light stickers
« on: July 24, 2024, 01:18:07 AM »
Six years ago I got on Ebay a sticker to put on the idiot light console of my CB400F, mucho cheaper than buying a new unit but I can't find out where I got it from and I want a new one now. Does anyone know?

CB350/400 / Brake Torque Arm colour

I'm beginning to notice the brake torque arm on the CB400F/2 in different colours in different pictures, how should the standard one be?

Misc / Open / What happens if an exhaust mounting stud snaps off?
« on: May 16, 2024, 10:48:17 AM »
I took my bike in today to have the oil pump seals changed and get a set of genuine Honda exhaust mounting studs fitted to replace the rust prone homemade junk currently in place.
The mechanic had to tell me he would only try so hard if any are very stubborn, lest they snap off. If that happened where would I stand though?

CB350/400 / Exhaust studs issue
« on: May 08, 2024, 06:49:27 PM »
I thought the lengthy rust prone exhaust studs 'on the 400/4' were a buzzing fly and plain got on with it. But seeing the genuine ones on the DSS site I realise I've detected what might be another home made part some bum down the owners list added. The rear brake rod and speedo cable grommet on the front fender are other homemade things I inherited from this bodger.  ::)
These things are 2 1/3 inches long, does anyone know the length of originals?
I'll get a set somewhere along the line but at £55.00 a full set it will have to wait a month or two, other priorities first, I might take the trouble to cut these back a bit for now (maybe  :-\
