Possibly I think
While I (think ) I understand the forces and direction, I'm nowhere near in knowledge of how to calculate them. Effectively a wheel is stationary at the bottom when vehicle is moving (else you'd observe slip at the road surface) and so nil movement, then at 150mph it would be travelling in direction of vehicle at 300mph over the top and opposite the base. That could accommodate this effect as I see it. Acceleration from 0g up to peak and back again. That would only be for the point at maximum circumference though (I think) as the spindle of the wheel would be @ the notional 150mph, with a gradient downward to contact patch diminishing, but the opposite accumulative. Depending where the valve sits in that scheme would dictate tge Acceleration equation. In my view 3

Me too, in curiosity of which bike thus is.
Normally a rubber mounted component is expected to either vibrate, possibly with the engine, and preserve the component from stress while being supported. Or prevent engine vibration getting back into the frame to annoy the rider. We'll have more insight by knowing the model to give clearer view of possible component. 4

Well spotted.
Notice that the images have either been copied, through another image array, or very severely comprised in image algorithm. Also both price and mileage are at 2000, neither of which is true. The text accompanying is also missing gaps etc, to probably avoid some level of AI logic scanning as like that it will not identify easily that its from same as original bona-fide advert. Theres a big difference in someone "acting" he clown and not knowing what they are doing.
He , effectively in my view, frames the other contributors skills to draw them out for TV consumption. Let's face it, he's successful in getting content commissioned to broadly mainstream programming thats about people similar to us and our interests through this site. This type of person is not a natural self promoting character, often underplayed in just how much they know, but given here a format to exhibit that without a showoff nature. Henry is part of that psychological support in his actions and contrasting behaviour. There's no real bike or mechanical content generally programmed, this is extensively bought again by those in control of TV content. That to me is an unqualified success. 7

I feel the original mechanical system, when in good condition and set correctly is virtually peerless. Even more so considering it's age of design.
The Boyer would definitely be my choice to change though, thoroughly tested and with some interesting design features worth having. 9

Good to get it up and running Dave.
It's odd how it's indicated to install, unless I'm missing something. Three of us getting the same result from those instructions suggest that it may need reconsideration. It is fairly simple in that a rough starting point at something half sensible, to then get very concise set at the maximum advance point, is all you have to do. A very good system I think, but with question over the start point that seems to give odd symptoms and confusion initially. 11

A nice car Ted
As noted though, the classic market was getting quite excited within itself over recent years. Frothy and puffed up beyond reasonable scale to sustain itself. Some years ago, I worked with someone with lifelong interest in E type jag, was restoring a couple, had a body jig and ability to fully work right through them, said about them then "you'll never get back the money put into that process" even doing all labour himself. Which of course changed from his cost basis in more recent times. People clamouring to buy classics as just investors didn't necessarily see what the market entailed. It'll drop back, but probably go again eventually in another cycle of same. Theres nothing like having something nice and using it too to extract value i feel though. Meanwhile, there's thousands losing literally thousands in the E marketplace 12

Oops,, I've made up a word there
"I don’t particulately" Amalgamation of "particularly & lately" and without my spell checker removing or otherwise substituted with it's own nonsense. Its probably stored that now in its little silicon filing cabinet, a bit like that machine Wallace & Gromit met on the moon only to later wordbomb some of my further writing. 13

Forgot to note, they just appear to direct you to start off far too far retarded from their diagram etc.
Even if you keep it running, you'll just run out of slot to spin the timing plate when you try to correct at max advance check. I don’t particulately like going against finite instructions, but just couldn't see it working as noted, it just doesn't check out correctly. 14

Thanks Julie, I remembered to watch it
Same old comment about front brake, which tells me they don't know how to properly set it etc. I feel there's often excuse made about old brakes, then accepted as routine that they're just not capable, when most of them can be much better. The original stopping distance was under 30ft from 30 mph, that's no slouch even now. It just shouldn't be used as excuse to have them impaired. 15

OK, trawling memory from that setup, there was delicious home made cake and cups of tea involved
The instruction item #18 seems wrongly advised with regards to crank position. We looked at it numerous times and set as you have Dave, but no dice and similar result. It also didn't play out in final timing as the adjustment slots were insufficient to get advance, if you could keep it running. What we ended up with was positioning the crank static point at either F or full advance (just can't recall which) then using the instructions complete other than that detail. Think you can put the plate in end of slot adjustment positioning (as diagram) if you use the F mark to set crank, or place the slots with screws centre point if you used the full advanced positioning as start point. Those two don't matter too much as you'll ultimately check it at full advance in final set up. They'll give you roughly the same final positioning for slot and screw whichever way you start. They'll effectively converge to give that effect when timed correctly. Hopefully that makes some sort of sense |
