Not really wanting to 'bump' this back up again but thought it might be useful for anyone searching in the future to note all has been well since cleaning fusebox, ignition switch and all connectors thereon.

Obviously I am unsure which actually was causing the problem but my money was on the fusebox if I have to guess

Mine arrived yesterday too. Got the email on tuesday and ignored it thinking it was the usual further delay message! re read it and it said it was despatched!

Agree the photos look great. Yet to actually read it!

I'm not THAT much of a stickler for originality to be honest and I just looked up the price for a new original one which has made me even less of a stickler! ( around 50 euros ) hopefully the extra cleaning will have done the trick - no problems yet this week he said touching wood - but will look for a suitable blade type if it goes again.

Update. Had a play today. Cleaned the fuse box and its block connector. Did the same with the ignition switch which I sprayed switch cleaner into as best as I could. Unfortunately I won't know if I have cured problem for a few weeks. One odd thing though there was signs of heat at one end of fuse only this kinda makes me think it could be that which was causing problem. It didn't seem dirty but have cleaned it up anyway. Could be a problem with the solder on the back of the fuse holder perhaps?

Thanks guys. Unfortunately fuse only blows after week or so once fuse replaced ( with same value only! ) its ok so problem is intermittant. fuse holders are nice & Clean but i havnt checked the box connector so will start there. will also check wiring diagram to see what goes through 15a fuse as the smaller ones have never gone. always suspected it would be dirty connector just wondered which are most likely.

Hi all. No real probs with my F1 but have had several blown main fuses. No real clues from when they happened, Once could have been indicators, other times just during running or as i stopped on driveway. Fuses r new, can check stuff with multimeter etc but this takes time. just wondered what most common cause likely to be?

Motad 4 into ones shouldn't need any carburation changes, my F1 is running one with standard jetting and centre notch needle position. I have standard airbox / filter.

Strange yours was in second notch, that would richen mixture over throttle range 1/4 to 3/4 approx. perhap p.o. was being cautious? or had non standard filters?

All I can tell you is my F1 gets heavier every year, and my face redder as I put her on the centre stand  :-\ Maybe you need to get a heavier stand each year?

I would agree with that. The most I have ever seen an F1 for was around £4500 but that was the dog's sphericals, v low mileage, original and pristine. The older four pipers seem more desireable to the average punter which is fine by me as a confirmed F1ophile  ;)

I guess it depends on how bad the rust is. I spent a small fortune on renovating my F1 ( lost count but estimated at £5K ) most in the know would know that which would drive the price down if they wanted to renovate.

If you get it wrong the front brake goes out of line and binds. Don't ask me how I know

Interesting that one! My initial reaction is if the road limit is 60 then the roundabout is 60 too as there are no speed limits on bends ( unless posted ) and its just an extreme bend(!) but what if one road entering the roundabout is 60 and another 40?

Don't think there is a legal max rate of acceleration either  ;)

Most people I know think I am a hooligan too just for swinging a leg over a bike when I should know better! Their loss.

I have a rivet tool that worked OK but have only used it once so can't really say how reliable it will be over time. Will try and remember / find out where I got it. Think most are broken when trying to remove a link, the instructions with mine said you should grind the head off first, seems sensible.

As for plugs I use the socket from the original tool kit. Yes the middle two are a bit fiddly but not too bad if you don't over tighten ( quarter turn only )

Signed it John, in the meantime will endeavor not to stop behind trucks / vans on the centreline or thereabouts, not something you always think about if I am honest.

I am going to now tell myself I have to look in the truck drivers mirror when I stop to see if he is smiling  ;)

John, think you are right with the model. I quite agree such things are not to be tried on public roads, this is a thought experiment as I am not prepared to risk my bike or skin! What it seemed to be saying was it was that it is the power and braking ( as it no doubt had anti lock brakes ) that are dangerous in the wet and not so much the lean angle. This kinda makes sense but 40 degrees??? I know thats a sports bike in every sense and mine isn't but ......

Matthew / Trigger, I have scratched with the best in my day. Got through several exhaust clamps on my original F1 and ground footrests, even today occasionally I find it hard to resist but never in the wet ( then or now ) Guess I am just idly wondering what the limits are in the wet thats all ( as I said I ain't going to change how I ride especially now I'm an old boy trigger!  ;) )
