Title: Main Stand blues
Post by: Athame57 on August 23, 2020, 07:15:17 PM
I have just de-rusted and painted what I hoped would be a replacement stand for my CB400F2 whose current stand has developed a crack meaning I can't use it until it's welded up again. I've had this issue on a CB250N so I thought having a spare would also be a good idea. After all the work of taking off the exhausts so I could struggle with the spring (is there an easy way) to get the stand off I find it ....doesn't fit.  ::)
Did the CB400F and F2 have different stands?
The shiny newish looking stand in the images is the one I acquired on ebay sold as a stand for a CB400F. In one image you'll see my current stand with the split arrowed. The current one has room for a sleeve to be fitted, the new one does not.
Any idea what I might have on my hands so I can flog it myself?

I think the sleeve is already in there, "they" couldn't get it out....

Just went and had another look anyway, but there is no sleeve in it, I'm wondering if when the changed to position of the passenger footrests on the early model they changed some other things too? The sleeve is actually wider than the tunnel it sits in.

Okay, sorry. it looked on your picture like the top stand had a flattened sleeve...

After all this hassle a nice chap just up the road from me at a place called Madeira Auto Body Repairs under  the Railway Arches, Brady St, London E1 did it on the spot in 10 minutes for just £5.00  ;D

Did he weld the old one or fit the new one? Curious. 😉
