Title: Downpipes (again)
Post by: tom400f on August 10, 2012, 09:55:13 PM
My downpipes and collector are sound but chrome has come off the weld to the silencer joint and elsewhere corrosion is variable, as pictures show.

Seems to me that considering the double skin of the original, rechroming would be better than pattern replacement. Posts about mudguards and wheels but has anyone done this? Is it possible even?

Very few chromers will touch exhausts as they contaminate chemical baths big time.

@rozabikes - I'd read that elsewhere as well, but may be more for silencers, especially when baffles are not removable and the insides cannot be cleaned beforehand.

Chrome restoration Services did an excellent job on some of my parts for the Shadow I used to have (including the downpipes).  He "only" polishes the parts (that's the skilled bit) and then uses various platers for different jobs.
