Title: MOTAD Fitting
Post by: Beemer634 on August 13, 2012, 07:44:09 PM
I am embarrassed to be posting this ...........Who thought fitting an exhaust system to a bike could be difficult?

I am attempting to refit a Motad M4H system, have made several attempts to fit the pipes then the silencer, then tried fitting the silencer then the pipes, all met with failure! The bloody thing came off some time ago but now refuses to go back on.....The best I can get is 3 pipes to fit sucessfully but the last one is way off target. There only seems one way that the pipes will align for the silencer but then the silencer is way off line for hanging on the bracket.

Could someone please tell me the best way to get 6 individual items to live in harmony!!

Glad no one can see me blushing as I hit the Post button!!

Thanks and enjoy sniggering at my apparent ineptitude!

The way I've done it in the past is to loosely assemble the whole thing and then offer it up to the bike. As you have discovered, doing it bit by bit always results in the last piece being 1/2" out!

I had the same problem when I bought a new motad system years ago, I was not putting the down pipes in the correct cylinder it looked right but it wasn't if you know what I mean. Swap them around it fitted after lots of tries.

Cheers

Thanks guys, after another 3-4 hours of struggling I eventually got it on correctly.

I took me a few attempts as well, then I discovered the downpipes were numbered.  ::)
