CB350/400 / M8 x 125mm Bolt
« on: June 26, 2017, 12:48:32 PM »
Hi All,
Have been rebuilding bike (CB400/4) for the last 9 mths or so and I must admit there was alot of make do and mend from the previous owners, I now seem to have an M8x 125mm bolt spare and have no idea where it has come from? have look at the schematics on the CSMNL website and again no luck on finding where it goes? it may well have been used instead of the correct bolt? but I would like to have some clarification before continuing.
Hopefully someone out there can give me some piece of mind!!!
Cheers in advance

CB350/400 / Clutch Plates
« on: May 14, 2017, 08:51:06 PM »
Hopefully someone can throw some light on this topic? have just started re-assembling engine, have got as far as putting clutch together and made a very school boy error!! failed to take notice on which way round the clutch plates went? the clutch plates have one side which seems rounded off on the edges and the opposite side is quite square and sharp edges, which way do they go into the clutch basket?

CB350/400 / Main Bearing Shells proud of Crankcases
« on: April 17, 2017, 03:47:00 PM »
Hi Everyone,
In desperate need of advice, fitted new Main Bearing shells as per Markings, plastigage all and there all reading o,063+ and 1 which has the Black shell fitted is reading 0,076 (photo included), but what I have noticed is that all the shells are proud of the crankcases, is this right? (See photos).

CB350/400 / CB400/4 Crankshaft Main and Big End bearing clearances
« on: April 12, 2017, 10:02:00 PM »
Hi All
Just started to rebuild bottom end of my 400/4, have started to check big end bearing shell clearance with Plastigauge, the 1st one I checked is ,038 microns (.0015") Tolerance in Haynes Manual reads 20-44 microns is this full wear limit? Have purchased new shells already but they are not giving me any better result than the existing one which seems to look ok (see attached Photos), only thinking that if its better long term to reduce the clearance then I'll get the next shell size up, whats the best way forward!!! or am I being to anal !!!any advice would be much appreciated!!

CB350/400 / Head Skimming
« on: March 15, 2017, 08:56:19 PM »
Hi All,
What is the maximum that can be skimmed off a CB400/4 cylinder head ? Just been told by the engineering company that they've removed 10 thou, which to me seems an extreme amount!!
Can you purchase a thicker head gasket to compensate if needed?

Any feedback would be grateful

Cheers

CB350/400 / Crankshaft Journal Shells
« on: January 10, 2017, 10:27:35 PM »
Looking for guidance, have stripped my CB400/4 engine down to the bare bones to do a complete rebuild, have checked crankshaft journal shells to replace with new , but there is no colour coding on the shells only markings on outside which are D5F-A STD and D4F-A STD, how do I relate these markings to a colour code? Any help would be appreciated. :) :)
