Some of these engine paints are meant for watercooled engines and not air cooled ones

Chrome restoration Services did an excellent job on some of my parts for the Shadow I used to have (including the downpipes).  He "only" polishes the parts (that's the skilled bit) and then uses various platers for different jobs.

Sorted! Posted on the US site and the reply is that it wraps over the front of the swing arm and is held by a bracket.  It then goes backwards to a bracket on the RH silencer bracket.

Mick, the guide is too small to take the long pipe.  I have just bolted the breather pot into place and will try the pipe in various positions to see what I can come up with.  It might actually be shaped to go round the rear crankcase breather pipe.

cheers Rob

Thanks all!  I have attached a photo of the bits that I am in trouble with.

It originally looked like the vertical part of the pipe ran up the frame and you would unclip it to drain the trapped oil (there should be a plug in the pipe which is missing but is available from DS.  Problem with this is I can't see how to avoid the crankcase or the rear breather tube.  The pipe could also be rotated and bent to run along the rear swing arm but this does not seem right.

The CMSNL drawing shows the pipe pointing towards the rear of the bike and downward but this does not fit either!

Thanks Mick, the PO had tie wrapped the wiring along the frame and it looked a mess.  Now I know, I can get it to look tidy.

Still need help with the K8 breather!

CB750 / k7, k8 quick question
« on: July 20, 2012, 09:26:08 AM »
Questions:

K8 - Where does the breather tank oil drain run?  This is the bolt-up type catch pot with the u-bend drain hose.

K7 - Where does the points plate wiring run, is it along the frame or under the engine by the neutral switch wiring?  If its along the frame anyone know the clip part number (want to use the correct part, not tie wrap).

Put a nut over it and weld the nut to the easyout (try a repair shop or SMALL garage if  you haven't a welder).  You might be able to turn the lot out using the nut.

I think the F2 chain is the larger 630 chain ( the same as the K7).  I don't think the engine sprocket will fit as I believe the output shaft is different.

CB750 / tach cable k7

Anyone know the length of the tacho cable for the 750k7?  I was supplied with a new one by the previous owner but it seems to be 1 to 2 inches too long.  DS does not have one in stock at the moment for them to measure.

When I last rang the Customs & Excise about this I was told that the Customs charge you when their "take" is above a certain amount (it used to be something like £5).  The value they work on INCLUDES the postage charge and the rate they charge you is the same as our VAT rate.  In addition, you pay a collection fee to the post office or courier (ie DHL), this is included in the total charge (was £8).  The collection fee is higher if an express delivery service was used.  It is a bit hit or miss as not all packages seem to be caught in the system (after saying that, I have always had to pay if its DHL etc)

I understand that if its a business you are buying from its risky for them to put a low value or "gift" on the paperwork as some of the packages get inspected at the US exit point and they are then liable to court action.

I always work out the possible charges before bidding then if it gets through with no charges then I have won!

According to the Honda workshop manual for the F2 the main bearings service limit is 0.0032 inch (0.08mm) after that replace the bearings.  It looks like yours are OK.

CB750 / Oil Gallery Plug?
« on: July 02, 2012, 07:42:37 PM »
Any one know if there should be a plug in the gallery shown on the photo (I have drawn a line to it).  Its at the bottom of the gear shift linkage cover and its normally covered by the gasket and cover.  The microfiche shows a plug 91256-096-651 but I found this was for the end of the starter reduction gear shaft.  Is it the same part for this gallery?  None of my strip down photos shows it and the manuals I have aren't clear or do not cover the area.

CB750 / Re: Battery question
« on: July 02, 2012, 07:35:30 PM »
I need a battery for mine so this thread started me looking as I fancy a GEL type.  What I have found on the manufacturers sites is that the GEL type should not be overcharged, the voltage should not exceed 14.4 volts or they will vent to atmosphere to release the gas pressure.  Too much of this causes them to fail, so your charging circuit needs to be good.  Also one site said not to use any type of trickle charger on their batteries.  My local Honda dealer said they have had a number of cases where the GEL batteries have suddenly failed and the regulator was found to be faulty.
