What thickness of felt is usually recommended? 2mm, 3mm?

St1100 pan European. Superb tourers and your wife will love you for the pillion comfort. Weight disappears when moving and with two of you ok to manage shoving around car parks.
I concur, whilst my GF is quite happy with her NT700VA, less grunt though, but fine for one up...

Never liked the stuff. The result was always poor, leaving the disk somewhat greasy.
Interesting, I use the cheap PRESTO brand brake cleaner from Louis and that stuff even washes Molycote G-n Plus off, easily, with no traces...
Beware on paint and plastic through, it will leave a dull, foggy-white stain which require instant use of paint wax or plastic freshener to correct.
But I agree on those wonder-sponges, especially in detailing...

Ted / Steve. Have the pipes got any markings, script or stamings on them?
Indeed, would be nice to see an (E) embossed, maybe even a small booklet with the homoligation included, making our MOT inspectors happy, hence usage even possible...

Ate grease is - or used to be - first choice and was used by professional mecs. The tube says: compatible with: brake fluids DOT 3, DOT 4 and DOT 5.1. It's expensive though, so I wonder what alternatives there are. Some suggest you may use vaseline just as well. I don't know about the latter.
But that Ate grease is made for the brake job and therefore 100% safe.
Second that, using it for all MC and SC overhauls, brakes or clutch...

Always wondered, what is the purpose of the link pipe between the top and bottom pipes near the ends?
IIRC are such "balancing" ports intended to increase low end torque... dunno if this also applies when they're that far down the line though...
The ST1100 has them in the down-pipes, right below where they attached to the heads; would look odd on those /4 engines...

Tempting indeed...
Doesn't show/tell if down-pipes are double walled, nor does it give any noise levels...
So the question if I could ever pass an MOT with those over here is pending...
Likely requiring are very forthcoming (blind and deaf) inspector...  ;D

Never seen the CBX1000 rubbers so can't comment. All I can say is that the maker of these doesn't do the CBX ones.
I stumbled over those:
