Tricks & Tips / cold/dip burnishing?
« on: December 15, 2023, 10:46:13 AM »
Many Honda bolts came in that dark olive finish, but I guess Chromium VI is out...  ;)

What's the experience on those cold brush on/dip black dye/tarnishing?
(clean - de-grease - acid dip - dye (possible repeat) - fixing liquid - soak in dehydration oil)

Seems to work OK on steel bolts and parts like engine mounts or exhaust brackets... but long term corrosion inhibition?
Will it also work on the aluminum switch-pod casings?

Recommended Sources for Parts and Services / Honda color coded wires?
« on: January 08, 2022, 06:08:48 PM »
hmm...
my previous supplier (http://www.vehicle-wiring-products.eu/VWP-onlinestore/home/homepage.php) for re/building wiring harness seems to have gone out of business...

Where to get cables with the proper color-coding now?
TIA

Other Bikes / '82/'83 Honda AF01/NH 50 MD brake cables...
« on: October 31, 2021, 02:44:23 PM »
I'm getting swamped since folks realize I've a shed that I wrench in...  ???

Anyway, the old scoot has drums front and rear, having a hard time finding new brake cables...

Any source where I can select some by length, diameter of threaded rod and nipple type?

I remember kits one solder the required nipple onto the cable... (I must be getting old now...  ::))

Posting this here over missing a "riding techniques" chapter...

Some good reading, whilst they've omitted the "ignorant egocentrics" who will try to run you over on purpose...

(I've bought tools and stuff in the past, and they're really well made...)

Other Bikes / '82 CX500 Eurosport
« on: March 11, 2019, 08:24:14 PM »
Hi,

apologizes for going dark for a while...
Workshop relocation and others, like the '82 CX500E of an acquaintance which has not been on the road since 1996
Tank, sending unit, carbs, forks, brake system, bearings, switch pods, fuse panel, etc, etc... down to the notorious 7V regulator powering temp and fuel gauge...
However, engine purrs again

Once this project is outta here, the 500/4s will receive some attention...

Cheers!

CB500/550 / Turnsignal reminder/beeper
« on: January 21, 2016, 05:53:16 PM »
Well, my '76 CB500K2 is supposed to have that (as the 550).

Is that thing instantly beeping when the indicators are switched on, or is there a delaying component present retarding the audible signal for like 90 or 120 seconds?

Well, the header already gives it away  ;)

I need a carrier whom I can contract online to pick up a parcel (carton roll, holding a bike livery kit for an ST1100) in West Sussex RH15 9TY and ship it to Vienna, Austria.
Already peeked at dhl.co.uk, where I could instruct such procedure (they even accept PayPal, Visa, MC, etc...), but 52 quid for a 2kg parcel seems a bit steep IMHO...

Somewhat cheaper should be avail., even DS sends items for about half that amount...

TIA!

cheers

Recommended Sources for Parts and Services / CB500 bolt sets?
« on: December 28, 2015, 06:20:26 PM »
Hi,

all the sets offered I can find are stainless Allen head bolts...

Anyone aware of a source for a standard galvanized, OEM like set, with the Philips, 8 & 10mm heads for top and bottom end?

TIA

Recommended Sources for Parts and Services / Keihin carb stabilizers?
« on: December 28, 2015, 06:13:56 PM »
I found two different version if the carbs I've at hand:

- soft, more flexible ones, made of spring grade stainless steel
- rigid, stiff ones, made of thicker, pretty solid steel plates

Methinks the first ones are the OEM quality, though they do seem to get bend easily when tightening the locknut after syncing (I found all soft ones been bend by PO/mechs, whilst on the carb with the "stiff" stabilizers, the links were misaligned...)

Some of the veterans care to elaborate?

Recommended Sources for Parts and Services / Small, home sized soda-blaster
« on: December 20, 2015, 01:47:38 PM »
I think I'll give that one a go:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/291621499215?ru=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fsch%2Fi.html%3F_from%3DR40%26_sacat%3D0%26_nkw%3D291621499215%26_rdc%3D1

Probably not as harsh on the material as Ashimoto's bead blaster  ;D  with a less dull/matt finish...
Seems ideal for smaller items and aluminium, like carb housings, valve covers, etc...

Interchangeability / Replica brake master any good?
« on: December 19, 2015, 12:26:59 AM »
Didn't know where to post this, as the item fits several models/displacements...

This replica master cylinder assy is offered almost everywhere:
http://www.ebay.at/itm/291240553549?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

DS and CMS carry an even cheaper one (note the difference with the lever bushing plate on the underside)
http://www.davidsilverspares.co.uk/parts/by-part-number/partnumber_45500300000P/

Knowledgeable purists will instantly spot that its not genuine/OEM due the grooves on the reservoir casing...
Still, originals are not avail, the ones coming on the bikes (at least on mine) are in really bad shape...

How big is the vaux pas when using this replica on a project?
How good is the fitment on the bike (like is the handle in a weird angle)?
Will an OEM Honda rebuild kit fit in the future?

TIA
