Queenies had one similar to this.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/303896564509?chn=ps&_ul=GB&_trkparms=ispr%3D1&amdata=enc%3A1_uBhNKaBTL-Wbt8h7etiSA98&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=710-134428-41853-0&mkcid=2&mkscid=101&itemid=303896564509&targetid=1816181027979&device=c&mktype=pla&googleloc=1006886&poi=&campaignid=19090194174&mkgroupid=147009364227&rlsatarget=pla-1816181027979&abcId=9303860&merchantid=119137374&gclid=CjwKCAiA44OtBhAOEiwAj4gpOZndLhHvd0aSPPeBe4WwaQAX7YBDkbrjqVTsLRYrYQDAwkZFZV4rxxoCRHEQAvD_BwE

It's bloody expensive but you could do multiple changes in the same day, no effort at all. It also didn't tend to damage rims unless you were clumsy.
Mine has a round table (Zipper ZI-RMM95) so it won't bang your thighs while working...
At € 950,- incl shipment I just couldn't resist... bike-wheel adapters make the job a breeze...
Sure, if you've only one ride to look after, you'd go to a dealer for the (maybe?) annual tire replacement...

I wonder if they'll do some 550F2 ones?
They currently have the 500 K2 holders in the pipeline (CAD file ready), since they're expanding their program massively, good chances for a 550 series in the foreseeable future...

Apologizes for the FB link, but the IML web-presence is still under construction...

The Rabaconda set is praised by touring riders...

https://de.rabaconda.com/products/street-bike-tire-changer

dunno if it works well with spoke wheels though...

(got me a pneumatic tire machine + the adapters for MC wheels... 2x ST1100, 1x NT700, 1x ER-5 + the rides of a befriended couple ST1300, NC750, a 70ies Z750, and the Burgman of the "in-law" dad... but I'll have to see how well it'll work with the CB500/4 wheels in the future...)

I just envy such folks for their time (and means) at hand to follow such projects...  ;)
(maybe once I retire...  ;D)

FWIW, I store 5 motorcycles (2 with carbs) and 3 cars (1 with carbs) for up to 7 months.  They sit in garages (in different locations) with the batteries disconnected (no trickle chargers).  Before storage I put StaBil in each fuel tank per the StaBil directions and then run them for 10 miles or thereabouts. After the storage period I connect the battery and hit the starter (use choke as normal for carbed engines).  They all start as if they had been running yesterday.  I've been doing that for nearly 15 years now.  I'm sure other brand fuel stabilizers work but StaBil is the only brand I have ever used.
A topic debated religiously and ad nauseam in pretty much every ICE related forums...  ;)
Some entertaining test:

https://youtu.be/chsGBhB5g7o?si=tdx4goLdhElDzQte

I'm more on the premium (hence low ethanol) fuel group, car and motorcycle...

Quote
Re my not using trickle/smart battery chargers: the vehicles are unattended during storage with no one living on the premises.  Years ago I had a battery explode due to a charger malfunctioning so I don't trust chargers that are unmonitored for months.  I've never had an instance of a disconnected/reconnected battery failing to spin the starter normally after the storage period.
Which is why I turned away from conventional starter batteries (besides that their quality decreased massively in the past few years...)
LiPoFE4 won't suffer permanent chemical death when discharged, attach a designated lithium-charger and they're fully revived in like 45 minutes...
(plus they're offering a lot more punch, hence cleaner spark...)

TBH I suspect the cam sprocket bolt was never tightened rather than came loose, you tend to fit one but not tighten it, just in case it locks the sprocket out of alignment for the other bolt,  spin the engine until the other comes up so you can fit that and then forget you haven't torqued up the first one and move onto something else, anything can cause this, someone speaks to you, a phone call, just something that breaks your concentration, easily done.
Which is why I prefer to work on my own...
And I adapted the Japanese way: Edding 8750 industrial paint marker...

Tricks & Tips / cold/dip burnishing?
« on: December 15, 2023, 10:46:13 AM »
Many Honda bolts came in that dark olive finish, but I guess Chromium VI is out...  ;)

What's the experience on those cold brush on/dip black dye/tarnishing?
(clean - de-grease - acid dip - dye (possible repeat) - fixing liquid - soak in dehydration oil)

Seems to work OK on steel bolts and parts like engine mounts or exhaust brackets... but long term corrosion inhibition?
Will it also work on the aluminum switch-pod casings?

Dave, Myford are still allive and kicking in West Yorkshire. A new company was formed after the original company went bust in 2011. New lathes and spare parts are all available.  👍

Dang! Those machines look nice...  ???
But shed-space and cash are limited...

Only got me a little Compact 300 some years ago...
Small enough to carry/set on the bench when needed, or back into the shelf... served me well on a number of occasions...
But didn't pay nearly as much as they ask today...  :(

I'd additionally Loctite the insert preventing oils seepage...

CB500/550 / Re: plastic chainguard renovation
« on: November 20, 2023, 11:15:28 AM »
Looks like a plasticiser type product that appears valid to what's asked for here.
Was sold (re-batched) under Honda back in ze 90ies, took me a while to find the original though...
Brilliant on poly-carbonate windscreens (removes bug-splash without a trace, keeps the screen water repellent for quite some time)...
Successfully prepped some (plexi) instrument faces and cover plates...
Great on the plastic handlebar switch-pods (some UV-protection and won't make the plastic brittle like that ArmorAll...)
Super on vinyl seats as they're not slippery afterwards!
Also using it on my car's dash and interior, preserves the dull surface, hence keeps windscreen reflections at minimum...
(no, I'm not a share holder!  8) )

Motorex protect and shine.recommended by triumph for black plastic. Looks great but needs repeat application.
Bike Spirits Spray Cleaner & Polish...

https://www.amazon.com/Original-Spirits-Cleaner-Polish-Aerosol/dp/B007KPX7HQ?th=1

Wash, dry and de-grease part, apply, let soak over night, wipe any excess off with lint free (cotton) fabric in the morning...
(lasts about a year on dark gray and black plastics before it washes off/faints due exposure... but re-application works effectively after the first over night treatment)

Machine mart do an air assisted ramp. If yours is a Clarke one (or similar) I'm sure you could add this option.
Maybe worth investigating.

(Attachment Link)

In fact, I'm tempted to do that to mine....
Basically the system on my (Made in China?) bike lift...
Takes longer then pumping manually though, with my small compressor it struggles a little with a 312kg ST1100 on the plate...  ;)
But it works, servicing the jack (replacing/topping off the oil) does help...
(had to upgrade the release mechanism with actual U-joints, tiny cotter-pins on the original design didn't cut it...)
