CB350/400 / Re: Checking the dip stick
« on: October 09, 2023, 11:45:25 AM »
In the dealers it was always sent out on the upper mark when dipstick resting on case and NOT screwed in
No vibration issues due this?
(I'd get numb hands when filling my ST1100 to the max line in the view-glass... never over 3/4 there)

More snow mobile ATV but looks mean.
I was referring to the Rokon Trail-Breaker  ;)
It's chain driven FWD is unique...
Hydraulic (or electric) FWD's are more an "assisting" propulsion...

So is it the seemingly unstoppable Win update to blame yet  again?
Doubt that... latest update Win10pro_64 and FireFox 116.0.2 here and no issues at all...

But it might help if you mention OS/version and used browser/version to circle down the problem...

Misc / Open / Re: Adrenaline & age does it affect you?
« on: August 12, 2023, 10:19:29 AM »
Even as a teenager I would always feel a slight surge of Adrenaline rush as I prepared to go out on my bike - it would always subside within a few yards of riding off - only returning if I rode too fast or had a rear wheel skid.
Not so much, but I was always seriously looking forward to a ride...
Which has faded noticeable, won't care about any short morning/afternoon hops anymore... way too much effort with gearing up, etc...  :o
A one, two, three weeks tour makes more sense... still quite a task with planing, prepping, packing, etc... but once I'm finally on the road I'm into it...  8)

Glasgow has introduced a Low Emission Zone, to be followed by Edinburgh, Dundee and Aberdeen next year.
If your vehicle is not compliant you will get fined. Each time you get a fine it increases up to a max of £480!
You can't pay a daily charge, just stay out or get fined. A@#eholes!
I've to assume this also includes vehicles from abroad?
Putting a dent in the intended Scotland tour...  ???
Is it at least properly signed or will we end up in some ambush?

Desperately Seeking!! / Re: Shoei
« on: July 15, 2023, 06:11:44 PM »
Anyone got a new unused chin curtain for a Shoei Multitec?
The solid or the mesh type?

I attempted to point to the Shoei store (https://www.shoei-europe.com/shop/en/spareparts/flip-up-helmets/), but as it turns out they've stopped supplying Multitec parts... (a shame at that price range!  >:( )
Owning both I'd need to check of the ones from Neotec or Neotec II would be compatible...

So as well as these proposed tourist taxes, foreign motorists should also pay as we do in Switzerland and Austria plus many more.
Common discrimination of local population...
Running service calls (HVAC) with a panel van, and whilst migrant workers are totally ignored and unharmed over parking wherever they please/their engines stall, those meter maids are all over us... sure, the easy way: local plates, local language, no worries about getting accused of racism...  :-\

No idea about creokote or 2 pack but we've always used Simoniz SIMVHT31D on Honda CB four engines.
Out of interest: will this give a glossy or mat/dull finish/surface?

I fitted mine with the carbs in place so had to use a narrow cable tie - for peace of mind even though the i/d is 5.4mm as its 1/4".

As they're not braided: prone of getting kinked?

You need one with long nose, something like this https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32816981461.html?spm=a2g0o.order_list.order_list_main.289.bc061802yRTd4B
You will indeed require those long, narrow 90° ones with tiny tips in there...

https://www.amazon.de/BGS-Sprengringzange-Grad-abgewinkelt-449/dp/B001ILG50E/ref=sr_1_17?__mk_de_DE=%C3%85M%C3%85%C5%BD%C3%95%C3%91&crid=K40V3H33UWXG&keywords=sprengringzange%2Bmotorrad%2Bbgs&qid=1681111884&sprefix=sprengringzange%2Bmotorrad%2Bbgs%2Caps%2C141&sr=8-17&th=1

But those cheap ones might fail/break quickly if there is a lot of corrosion in play (likely when considering the age of those motorcycles...)

I placed an old handlebar tube in the bench-vice, secured the MC on it, soaked all with some ATF/Acetone mix, used a long Philips/JIS screwdriver to loosen the piston first, then held it down while grappling the circlip in there...
Broke one pair of pliers in the process (the clip was rusted into the groove), got it with my spare one...

OEM Honda pliers (07914-SA5-0001) seem way more durable, but pretty expensive...

CB650 / Re: Lithium battery
« on: April 07, 2023, 02:13:49 PM »
Just DO NOT let the voltage drop too low as lithium polymer packs are very intolerant of over-discharging.
The internal BMS should prevent such... (eliminating the need of buying a new battery if deep discharged like with conventional types...)
You'll however need a designated charger providing constant voltage... (got the small GENIUS 5, an NLP14 is fully charged within 40 minutes)
The BMS makes them also compatible with their boost packs, eyelet cable kit with connector avail...
(disclaimer: DO NOT try to boost any Lithium battery unless the MFG explicitly clears to do so...
NOCO does, the battery BMS and their GB-series boost pack's PCB communicate accordingly...)
This and the solid plastic spacers that click into place (not some adhesive foam blocks like other brands include) sold the deal for me...

With (new, freshly charged) AGM or gel types (tried both) the starter in my GF's V-2 cyl NT700 (EFI) frequently struggled to overcome TDC, sometimes requiring pushing the button 5~6 times...
Now it always cranks reliably at first attempt, promptly firing after 2 rotations...
(the V-4 of the ST1100 has less compression, but also there noticeable higher RPM at cranking and prompt firing...)

Yeah, using LiFePO4 on a classic MCs seems like a sacrilege, but they work really well...

Methinks the onboard BMS should handle the charging fine...

Dunno about the "old style" systems, but my ST1100 and my GF's NT700VA are exceptionally happy with the NOCO NLP14...

https://no.co/products/lithium/powersport

Fond them at decent prices on Amazon...

No voltage drop, hence clean spark providing instant firing...
