Misc / Open / Re: Anyone had any luck lining a fuel tank?
« on: March 30, 2023, 06:00:56 PM »
Had a CX500 tank in pretty bad shape, cleaned (gravel & shake, then high pressure/steam wash, fully dried out with heat-gun on low, rinsed with brake cleaner, vented that for a week) and used the Por 15 stuff on it like three years ago, still holds up nicely...

Not ethanol but biodiesel which is made using methanol
Supposed to be E5 (premium) or E10 (regular), but test showed it can be up to E20...  ???

Although ethanol has been known to gum up and cause clogging in fuel injectors and fuel filters, the corrosion problem is typically limited to carbureted engines, according to Scott Diehl, National Sales Manager at Driven Racing Oil.
Dunno, the owner of the Toyota workshop I get my trusty '96 Carina E serviced, told me about a BOSCH seminar he attended, showing the results due to Ethanol content after (simulated) 400,000km on a Diesel injector...
The outer casing looked like melted, forming an "icicle" pointing into the combustion chamber...

The "go through" i have seen is flush with the handle top so you can hit it with a hammer...
Either this, or go for two sets: one with ergonomic, skin friendly handles, another with though shafts you can whack with your adjustment tool...

Indeed, I'd rather worry about O-rings, rubber seals, gaskets and diaphragms in this...

Anorak's Corner / Re: Tap n die set recommendations
« on: March 05, 2023, 10:54:19 AM »
I found use of a designated drilling and cutting oil extremely helpful... even with relatively cheap bits...
The stuff I'm using sticks to the bits like honey and extends the lifetime of all drills, taps and dies massively...

hmm, weird anecdote:

the last time I'd ordered OEM idle jets for an ST1100 (jet, slow, #40, 991034370400) they appeared to be made out of some SS alloy instead the usual brass I'd expected...
Coincidence, simple change of vendor, or an intended countermeasure by mother Honda?

Guess I'll know for sure with the next set I'm ordering in the future...

CB500/550 / Re: Tightening sequence for bar clamps ?
« on: February 25, 2023, 04:00:10 PM »
There is clearly a dot at the front and that end is definitely thicker - like the front wheel clamps.
I was about to mention that there supposed to be punch marks, indicating the [forward] position... typical Honda.
Same for bar, clutch/brake armatures and switches (as well as brake & sift lever) having the default ergos marked...

I’m after some for packing up the battery  in the cradle. on the build and as it’s a lithium one it’s quite small.
FWIW: exactly the issue I went with NOCO for my ST1100 (+ the GF's NT700), they include solid, clip-on plastic spacers with their batteries...

Found them at decent prices (cheaper then the OEM YUASA) on Amazon...

Not many hardy bikers left these days, or they are worried about getting their bikes dirty 😂😂😉😂
Season Greetings!  8)
I'd only be worried about the road salt, washing that brine off upon returning home...  ???

I see that when the picture I attempt to attach is too large...
I resize it to 800x600p and that seems to cure it.

True, keeps the heat in BUT takes 6 months to warm up in the first place!
Indeed  ;D
I think at first that "rock" never came over 12°C during the summer...  ;)
Methinks British' castles won't be much different...  ;D
