Title: loose needle and debris in sump
Post by: Windycorner on December 20, 2018, 04:29:09 PM
Did the first oil change I've done on this bike yesterday, and a loose needle came out of the sump drain hole, also what looks like sand came out of the oil filter housing, so I dropped the sump and its full of gritty sand and sludge, so I have no idea were the needles from and I am now thinking I will have do a full strip and check everything, and an other thing is the exhaust silencer was cut in half at the join with the collector box just the gasket was pushed in as a seal >:( and it was a new honda sankei silencer as well,
I've read Julies rebuild post a couple of times I am sure I can do it, just the gearbox layout frightens me and of course what other horrors I will find in there. I will try and attach some photos.

That all looks interesting Neil. The gritty sand and sludge would be more worring to me than the needle you found as all that debris and swarf has been going around the engine at some point. I really struggled with the gearbox layout and components as well and had to have it explained to me more than once. But, there are plenty on here who will help talk you through it if you get stuck but, I'm sure you will be fine.

That needle loks like a shaft bearing needle and the sludge looks like the cam chain has been rattling a lot. Strip it soner rather than later
