New Member Introductions / Re: Hello from Southport

Hi Martyn.  Nice collection of bikes you have there and as you say your new 500/4 looks nice but not so pristine you wouldn't want to get it dirty or wet.   Welcome to the site.

Ebay are robbing gits if you are selling stuff , but their platform reaches a wide audience of potential buyers.

I know what you mean Ian.   I sold a car to my son at the end of the calender month, intentionally so neither of us lost any money (i.e. a months tax) but the b*****ds said I hadn't informed them I'd sold it prior to the end of the month (which I definitely had) and charged me anyway for the following month.  With hindsight I should've cancelled the direct debit (I paid monthly for that car) but I thought it would end automatically when I sold the vehicle.

No, looks like an import to me, has a VIN plate and UK didn’t get them at that time.

Mine had a Vin plate in the same place and it was deffo a UK bike.

I'd be up for a petition, but I doubt it would do any good.  I'm the same as you, my car, a 160 bhp Beemer costs just £30 a year to tax. All my bikes are over 600cc so as you say it costs £96 a year now to tax each one and I can't ride them all at once!  I think there should be another intermediate group for bikes between 600 and 999cc.  I have a 175 bhp 1077cc Aprilia and yet someone with a 47bhp Enfield Interceptor pays the same road tax as me.  A level playing field is needed methinks.

I'm with Oddjob.  I'd buy it at that price if I was in the market for one.  I sold mine (same model and colour) last summer for similar money, but mine didn't have the standard exhaust.  If the exhaust system is in good nick that's worth a grand on its own.

Project Board / Re: CB250Rs Rebuild

Yes, good luck with the project.  I rode down to Sicily and back on one of those in the early 80's.  I thought about buying one myself recently to do up as you have, so I'll follow your progress with interest.

I must admit I've looked at them a few times.  I've never ridden one though.  The front brake looks a bit of a dogs dinner.  Typical Honda though, trying something new all the time.  I'm not a big fan of the linked brakes on my VFR.  Stopping on gravel driveways can be fun!   Hats off to them for pushing the envelope all the time with more advanced technology though.

Good luck with the project Phil.  I see in one of the photos you have a bottle of fizz on the garage floor available for when things start to get annoying?

 Excellent planning mate!

I had a Red 400/4 I bought from Mountains in about 1976/77.  I can't recall the reg number, although being York I'm pretty sure it began with OVY.

« on: December 24, 2020, 10:25:42 AM »
A quick summary from me.  I took my Aprilia Tuono for MOT back in February, just before the first lockdown started.  The bike passed fine, but had an advisory on the front tyre.   Ten months and probably 150 miles later, I still haven't changed the tyre, but plan on doing so before the next test in Feb 2021.  To put that into perspective I'd probably hope to cover 5000+ miles on that particular bike over a 12 month period.

Tricks & Tips / Re: Heated grips
« on: December 22, 2020, 06:07:49 PM »
Its a good point Mike.  I'm a big fan of Oxford heated grips, but the connectors aren't the best and I always wrap them in insulation tape but they are quite large and bulky and perhaps Oxford could look at fitting better ones as you have.

It might sound arrogant but I won't MOT a Historic that I've prepared myself.
