According to ebay it sold for just under £3500.  Did anyone on here bag it?

Don't confuse the modern Triumphs from Hinkley with the old pushrod stuff from Meriden. They have the same maker's name but no real connection as far as engineering goes. Modern sohc engines that are just as good as any Japanese engine, if not better.
Stands back and waits for the flack.........

No flack from me, but the modern Bonnies and the Thruxton are DOHC motors.

Yeah, I typed dohc and being on a sohc forum the predictive text bloody changed it without me noticing! 😂

Ha ha I'll let you off then    ;D

Welcome mate.  They are money pits! I shudder to think how much I've got 'invested' in mine moneywise since I bought it.  New paint, new exhaust, chrome parts, etc. etc. etc, but it is fun to ride and that nostalgia word comes to mind every now and then.

That rear caliper on your old Black Bike  is one serious lump of metal Julie!

Thank you for your responses.  They are an interesting mix as you might expect.   I'll report back (if nobody minds, this is a Honda forum after all!) when I get the bike home next week, but to be honest it won't be going out on the roads ' til 2020.   As its a Thruxton, I was thinking of changing the handlebars to the Bonneville type as I do suffer from wrist ache after a few miles on bikes with sporty riding positions. Ain't old age a bitch?   :-[ However,  watching the YouTube vid test reports, most vloggers say the riding stance isn't bad at all, so I don't plan on changing much initially.

BTW flatfour, if your brother thinks Triumph maintenance is expensive, he should look at Aprilia prices.  I've just had a full service done with a valve clearance check on my Tuono V4 and it came to over £500!   If the shims had needed replacing it would've been closer to £700.    :o

I've just pulled  the trigger on a 2011 Triumph Thruxton 900 (865cc actually).  Has anyone here got one or a Hinkley Bonneville perhaps? I'd be interested to hear owners views on them, thanks.

It will be the first British made bike I've owned in 45 years!  The last one was a BSA Bantam.  I hope the Trumpet is a bit more reliable than that was.   :(

It does sound like the charging system is at fault, as Steve says you should be seeing a much higher voltage than you are at 4000 rpm

It will be interesting to see what it does make.  As Trigger says, the inside of the tank isn't wonderful and the carbs will need sorting, but as per the other thread running at the mo, there's at least £600 quids worth of exhaust on that bike.

Mines on the carbs.

It looks to me that I might have a bit of a miss matched set up on the bike.  I inherited both sets of carbs from the previous owner, I'm thinking from what you guys have said, that he (or perhaps an earlier owner) swapped the 069A set for the 087A set. Mebbe someone bought the 087's and fitted those to the bike as something was amiss with the originals?   I don't know as I've not actually had the 069's fitted on the bike although the set seem complete apart from some idiot using a black sealant on the carb float bowls in place of the O ring rubbers.   :-\

As I mentioned at the start of the thread there was a motley selection of main jets in the 087A set so I think it would be in my own interest to checkout the airscrews in both sets and see what I have.

The carbs currently on the bike (087A) have the hollow point cross drilled jets, at least the No.1 outer carb has, I didn't check the others.

When I get some free time, I'll check them all out on both the sets of carbs I have.

I just checked, I actually have two sets of 4 carbs.  The ones on the bike are 087A and the others I have are 069A.  The plot thickens!
