I've just noticed the oil seal is not on the end of the camshaft, did it fall off when you took the rocker cover off?
Yes, that’s to one side for now

Well I convinced myself that I wasn’t getting any oil to the top end. I tried with the white paper for a couple of minutes but didn’t get any splashes. I’ve whipped the rocker cover off and I did have some oil up there.

As you can see the right hand oil bath has oil covering the bottom all over, the right hand bath has some oil but not as much. There are signs of oil on the tensioner bolt head and the valves but to be honest, I was expecting more, there is oil in the centrifugal filter as well and the rockers have a layer of oil on them.

The bike has probably run for around 3-4 minutes or so I guess, would this be about normal for a short start up after a rebuild?

Is the fact that there is some oil up there a good enough sign to put it back together and run it until winter?

I’m getting myself in a bit of a tizz as I know how weak these engines are regarding the oil delivery and camshaft and journals.

Any opinions would be welcome.

Thank you, as per previous advice I’ve seen here I will put a piece of white paper close to the front tappets and check for splashes.

I presume the amount of oil will be sufficient that there would be no doubt that it’s there?

I am getting close to starting up my CB360 after stripping and reassembling, the top end has been off and rebuilt.

I know this is a basic question but it’s the first engine work I have undertaken.

I know that I need to make sure that I have oil getting to the top end but how long should this take roughly?

I don’t want to panic and convince myself there are problems too quickly but also don’t want to have it running for too long and do some damage.

I’ve put some more bits back on the bike and am getting close to see if I can get it running for the summer.

What I did only just notice is the lever for the choke won’t drop all the way down, the lever catches on the carb body. The butterflies open and close in unison and looks ok in that respect.

Could it just be a case of bending the arm out a bit to clear the body or is there likely to be more to it?

Nope, thats what they should have in them unless you have fitted UK blinker heads
Gotcha, thanks.

Yes it would have, sconnect th orange with white trace and light blue with white tace in the headlamp as they aint legal in UK. Just remember you need a 5/21 bulb in front indicator same as rear light
Thanks again Bryan, much appreciated.

I know it’s 101 stuff but you’re saying I need to change the current bulbs to the 5/21 when I disconnect the DLR?

A quick question for those in the know please?

I’ve got the wiring harness back on the bike and all the electrical components are now connected again.

Does anyone know if this bike will have daytime running lights? When I got the bike, the headlight wouldn’t work on low beam. I’ve stripped and cleaned the switch gear and now the low beam works but the front two indicators come on with a permanent low light. I initially thought that I had got something wrong but a quick check looks ok. I don’t want to start chasing a problem that isn’t there. From what I can see online, it does seem as though they could be?

Well…

Don’t I feel like a silly sausage!!!

I counted the teeth on both sprockets, no problem there, I made sure the wheel was pushed as far forward as it could be, no problem there, I tried the cable tie, no joy. I tried joining the links on the sprocket so as there was as little play as possibly, no joy there either.

I had pretty much given up hope, sat back on the stool and admitted defeat and just sat staring at the bloomin back wheel and stupid chain that wouldn’t fit.

That’s when I saw it, staring me in the face. I’ve heard that nobody puts baby in the corner but someone should put me in the corner, with a big pointy hat!

The chain adjuster stopper was back to front!!!

Two minutes later the chain is on and fits and looks just dandy!!

Thanks for all the suggestions,

Haven’t counted the teeth on the new sprocket but it’s stamped and from DSS so presumably ok.

Exactly what I thought Ted but it’s the original rear sprocket and I replaced the front like for like. All the info says the chain is the right length but there’s still something not right. I counted the links on the new chain just to make sure it hadn’t been sent out wrong but there are 94 links as it should be? I will have another little dabble before getting the next size up chain.

I’m pretty sure everything is as it should be, I even took the axle out of the left hand side so the wheel moved forward even more and I could join the chain. I then tried to move the wheel back and tap the axle through but the chain wasn’t long enough to get the wheel back enough to get the axle through again.

I’ve stopped for the day now but will try again tomorrow with any suggestions.

I’ve managed to get on with a few jobs over the weekend and got to a pint where I was happy to fit the chain.

It is the correct link count for the bike apparently but no matter what, I can’t get the connecting link to fit, it’s about one link too short. From the looking I have done, it should be 94 links and it is. Original rear sprocket and a new 16 front sprocket so I guess everything should be the same and it should fit, but it don’t!

Stumped again!!
