Title: Is Jap metal the best?
Post by: shifty_steve on March 04, 2007, 10:12:21 PM
I have so much faith in Japanese steel I might well have over looked far superior products, I am replacing bearings at the moment and wonder if anyone has recomended makes, maybe not origanal or Japanese?

Cheers Steve

When I sourced the bearing for the Sticky Bearing article (http://www.honda-sohc.co.uk/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=37&Itemid=142) I bought them from Simply Bearings http://simplybearings.co.uk/shop
I've always bought bearing from a bearing supplier, (A mate of mine used to work for one - BRT bearings) and they are quite often cheaper.

I try to buy SKF, if not then NKE. Incidently, I replaced a bearing in a washing machine last year and it was the same bearing that's in the Honda's gear box.

Thanks for that JonnyB, I have been biased about steel qaulity for many years, so now its time to invest in some bearings I want the best on offer. There is a local bearings supplier near to me and I will talk to them see what they can offer. Timken (usa I think) also seem popular, but also big supplier don't know how well they fair up.
Cb7 zanussi:laugh:  eh!

Cheers
