Hi All
Does anyone have a speedo trip rewind knob for a cb400 that they are willing to part with It is a push fit on splines Unfortunately had to distroy mine while doing a refurb and they are not listed as a spare Thanks Ross

Try Peter Horton Rosco. He's the guru on stuff like that.

Was talking with him about faces etc and he suggested cb750faces for the parts Just assumed he didn't stock any But worth a message cheers

He has boxes and boxes of old speedos etc in bits, must have one somewhere in there.

If you don't find one, I'm about to make a couple and could easily make another. They will, however, be made from Stainless and not ally...

When you take the speedo apart you leave the knob on the shaft.
The shaft is in two parts put some heat on the shafts where they meet as it has thread lock on it.
Hold the shaft nearest the numbers with some long nose pliers and unscrew it LEFT HAND thread ;)

Well Paul, you learn stuff everyday I never knew they unscrewed Only read that to remove the knob use a dremel to cut a slot in the knob which can be repaired This i was trying but totally destroyed the Knob Every day a school day That is now logged Thanks

I've managed to remove the black knob from the shaft using a heat gun, should that be necessary.

Interested to see the image taken from the guide I wrote many years ago on the subject of dismantling a 400F speedo. It's not necessary to remove the knob, remove the band and remove the 'C' clip and then the trip drum can remain in the body as mechanism attached to the base is lifted clean. The trip knob will now pass though the hole in the body and can be lifted out. As previously mentioned the trip shaft needs to separated trip counter shaft in the manner described, a gas lighter is ideal for the purpose although this does require great care. Might unscrew easily but may need repeated heating before it will unscrew. What you won't want to do is to break the thread on the counter shaft.
Originally the speedo was assembled and the trip shaft was screwed in ( with tread lock added ) as the final assembly operation.
Missing or broken knobs and if not too bothered by having an original some tube caps are very similar or a small radio knob that usually have a grub screw to secure it.
