Title: Tank badges
Post by: Sesman on November 02, 2022, 04:01:17 PM
I don’t believe it. Roo was kind enough to source me two new fully intact tank badges from the states.

Unfortunately they appear to be for a 500, not a 550F2.

£25 plus postage if your interested.

FFS Phil!

Send em back I'll take em back of fyou and shift em on. They were listed as 550F2 badges.

Fail again!
Are they not quite  matching the space?

Gutted! >:(

Get me some dims Phil, if mine are for the 550,I'llswap you but mine have no piant on now so You'll have to tart them up.

I even sent the part number to the vendor after that faff with the indicators! Mine are annodised gold as you mentioned so do you want mine mate before I grind the backs off to fit my tank (modified).
If its a goer, happy toswap as it doesnt make 'aputh of difference to me bud.

The 550F2 badges are gold with a black border IIRC.

Don’t sweat it Roo.You we’re kind enough to make the effort and I was a bit slack  regarding the description. Somebody will be along to buy my ‘barn find’ at some time. They’re good badges.

Spot the difference. 550F2 badges are a little longer with wider pin spacing and are 390 R and 390 L items.

As you can see, the 550F2 are gold anodised with Matt black infill. I’ve had to grind mine to remove some marks etc. The problem is getting them re anodised. I haven’t found anybody willing to do it. Help anybody…?

Oh, and willing to swap if your gold anodising is unmarked and the nipples are intact….highly improbable!

Phil, how about trying some gold leaf. Bit of glue on the letters and stick some leaf on there, might work.

He, he. I’m thinking of buffing to a mirror finish than Matt black infill….

I'll drop you some piccies Phil, although I think there are some on my epic chat box thread  ;D  ;D ive stuffed em somewhere, I'll dig em out and send some piccies over.
I even sent you piccies in the states and asked if they were the right ones yer numpty ;D

I'm still dead annoyed though! What a shame, I hate it when things back fire.

Yup, that’s me…numpty. It’s really not a problem. They’re sold now anyway, so don’t sweat it. Like I said, I’m just grateful you are prepared to make the effort. Sit back and plan your next build phase. At least somebody got a good set of badges from your efforts. Far superior to some of the shite I’ve seen advertised for significantly much more money.

Bless yer Phil, Frame issues, indicator cock ups, now badges............bloody 'ell! ;D

As long as you've got rid and all good mate. They were a cracking set as well. If you find them in the states where there a sh*t load, get them delivered to the fish farm mate I will have them put in my "Christmas Present" box that's coming from my distant Aunt...........Shane, whos the manager there, no stress. 8) ;D
That is if you can't find an annodiser or a set to play with here. He's going to send me the "presents" last week of Nov via UPS. I saw heaps over there similar to that but have a shufty.
Don't include the usa in your search, just go direct to ebay.com (the US site)and that will calculate all the rest but you know all that. The post code for the site is what you need to get a quote but the most I paid having stuff shipped to the farm to me was about $5. Your badges will come in a jiffy bag between card so they'll cost zip all to get to "Father Christmas's Farm", I mean househouse and put with  the rest of my "presents" he's sending.
I've told others on here not to say ought and to keep it quiet though ;) :)

If that helps....... ;)

Rodger dodger. Did you see Teds powder coated frame? That had the stress marks on the main frame member too.

Yeah, I clocked that. Spotted Phil ;)

The 500 I sold had exactly the same. I think it’s pretty conclusive it’s a manufacturing thing.

Do you mean the marks just below the triangular section of the top crossbar when you refer to stress marks?

That’s the ones. Very common characteristics I understand. I’ve seen them on my 500 and they are present on my 550.

It’s not bad thing, Ted. We were just curious as to how they occur during manufacturing.

From my knowledge with wing pressings on Vauxhalls in the 1970's they were quite a common thing.

A mate who worked for Lubrizol told me they eventually fixed the problem a decade or more later by using better lubricants & lubricant dispersal in the pressing machines to stop "dry rubbing" ripples forming during the pressing process. It became an issue with the changes in design to ever more complex shapes in fewer pieces.
