Title: Hello from the Inner Hebrides
Post by: Honda enthusiast on July 18, 2023, 12:16:30 PM
Hi Folks

I live on one of the islands and own two single cam Honda Fours. I started out with a CB500Four in 1977,Candy gold, that was a lovely bike and I did 20,000 miles on her.

I now own a CB750K4 1974 and a CB550K3 1978 both of which I have restored. I restored the K3 in 1990 and the K4 in 1998, I love both and they are both keepers.

I've just bought an American import CB750K7 which i'm going to get running over August and then strip in down in winter 2024. Its quite clean and the PO did a bit to it including the paintwork so its not a major job. It has just 10,500 miles on it . I'll start a thread when i'm doing it

Kind regards

Shuggie ( Hubert)

Hi Huw,
Glad you found us eventually - they are a very knowledgeable and friendly bunch here and like lots of picture progress when you get round to doing that.  Sorry I didn't get to meet up this year for a ride but hopefully there might be chances in future.

Will ring for another yarn when we get back,
Ian and Chris

Hi Shuggie, welcome aboard. Much knowledge on here, also good source for suppliers etc. You’ve got the same bikes as me! Except my 750 is a K3.

Hope you don’t mind me saying Shuggie, your throttle cables routing on the 750 could be improved on. Also make sure that top yoke pinch bolt spacer washers are fitted. Not sure by the photo if they are there or not.

Welcome to the forum - nice bikes
Johnny - I'm sure that the 750 experts on here have said that the top yoke spacers were only fitted up to the certain models (K2)?
Sure someone will confirm

Apologies if I’m wrong Phil, mine is a K3 it came minus the washers and a broken top yoke! Hence the awareness.

No, I don't mind at all. I'll have another look at the cable routing , I just ran them that way as they ran smoothly, I have some cable routing diagrams. As far as those top yoke spacers with a flat on one edge, I think I have them but they aren't fitted you're right Johnny. It is an old photo and I'll look to see if the cable routing is now right. Thanks 👍

The washers weren't fitted to the later yokes, if the bolts are 12mm headed with 8mm shafts then yes you'll need them, however if the bolts have 10mm heads with 7mm shafts they are not needed. From the pic yours look to be the 10mm headed ones. They tended to be chrome flanged bolts as well whereas the earlier ones were chromed but unflanged and a separate washer under the head.

Just checked on CMS parts they are listing same top yoke on k4 as k3 with 8mm bolts, I do know that sometime later they did modify the top yoke to be stronger therefore not requiring the spacer washer. Good info there Ken.

Always pays to check Johnny so well done. The picture wasn’t very clear and looked to me as the later type bolts were fitted, which is possible if the top yokes been changed at anytime. Good shout to spot the washers were missing in the first place. Any info is good info if it avoids parts breaking, especially as they become harder and harder to find
