Title: New Paint for my 400/4 Cafe Project
Post by: robnobrakes on December 23, 2012, 05:32:03 PM
Inspiration taken from the 1960's Team Lotus F1 livery seen here with the late, great Jim Clark in action at Brands Hatch.

Paint used is correct for period - I unearthed the Lotus paint codes 8)

Tank badges are new OE Honda parts sourced from the US of A.

I am still waiting for the seat unit due to minor blemishes seen in the new paint.

Normally custom paint jobs - I can take them or leave them, but I've got to say that looks absolutely fantastic. Great choice.

I popped round Rob's today and had a look at the paint while I was there and have to say it's a top job.

Mirror finish and no orange peel.I was going to use him to do my paint but it's just confirmed the decision.

Looks really good Rob, guess it's the last non comercial colours they used before going to the "Gold Leaf" livery as more sponsorship came in.

I saw a Triumph thruxton in the same just a month ago at a sunday bike meet and that also looked good in a cafe style.

The finish does look good even in the photos, a nice job.

Seat collected this afternoon.  Sorry for the poor colour quality, my camara can't cope with difficult lighting conditions.

I did well, they were £5.00 on Ebay with a stout alloy number plate mounting bracket, brand new and un-used.

That does look good Rob....with those bars it looks more flat tracker to me...nothing wrong with that, in fact very nice.

I also like those rear lights which are quite like alot of the type used in european endurance racing during the 70's and 80's.

Seems like you have a good angle on the asthetics....and fairly unique as well.

The bars are on borrowed time ::)  I have alloy clip-ons waiting to be fitted.  The top yoke is also being machined to remove the handlebar fixing lugs 8)

Rob have you ever rode a bike with clipons ? they have to be the most unpractical awkward , back and neck destroying bars out there, but for some strange reason it seems like your going faster, when i take my Rickman out it takes me ages to get the hang of riding with such low bars, but hey dont they look good, keep up the good work
Wher did you get youir seat done?
Pete

Virtually every bike I have owned has had clip-ons 8)

Seat upholstery carred out at http://www.vikingmotorcycleseats.co.uk/index.html
The seat cover is secured by the pop studs, so can be removed from the base.  This allows the base to be secured under the cushon so there are no ugly fixings on show.
