Title: Spoked Up
Post by: Lynx on April 05, 2015, 03:08:57 PM
I've just finished building my front wheel with new stainless spokes and DS rim. I't's nicely trued but should I be aiming for a particular torque on the nipples?

There's a torque figure in the manual, can't remember what it is but it's a low figure - 4 or5 lb ft I think.

Thanks for the tip Taysidedragon. I've found it in the Honda manual now. 1.9 - 2.2 lbs-ft  :).

Something wrong there, that is less than finger tight.

For metric it says 25-30 kg/cm.

This is all very technical.... get a known good wheel(s) & ping the spokes with a screwdriver.
Then set your new spokes to sound the same...

Well, it worked for me!

Cam caps and covers are often low torque. I have a 1/4" drive torque wrench on my wish list for that reason .

OK What's the secret to fitting tubed motorcycle tyres? I can fit tubed bicycle tyres fine. I can fit tubeless motorcycle tyres fine, but I have just tried fitting my NEW inner tube and tyre three times this afternoon and punctured it each time  :'( :'( :'(.

Lynx,

Put a bit of air in the tube so it is not flat and it pulls away from the wall.
Not too much just a tad and it allows you to get the levers under it without trapping it.
Three holes in the tube throw it away and start a fresh.
