CB350/400 / Can I advertise my bike for sale on this forum?
« on: April 27, 2023, 09:56:19 AM »
Not sure if it is ok to start a post offering my bike for sale.
I know some forums I’ve been on don’t allow it and as I couldn’t see a particular section for it thought I best ask.
It is a 400/4 so not just any old random bike.

Thanks

CB350/400 / Valuations
« on: September 07, 2022, 09:24:13 AM »
Been thinking about selling my 1977 400/4, but not sure of what would be a fair price to ask for it.
Seen some really high prices being asked for what looks like show standard bikes. Mine is nothing like that though but I’d consider it as a survivor bike in good original condition. I’ve attached a picture and to be honest the picture does flatter it slightly it’s a few years old that snap and I have hardly ridden it since then so it’s a lost a bit of its sparkle.  Got a few scabs and scars on it and a bit of rusty staining appearing here and there on the chrome parts.
So I would be very interested to hear what your thoughts are. Bike has 27000 miles registered as a historic vehicle so no MOT required, rebuilt the carbs recently so runs ok but needs some fine tuning/balancing done, new oil and filters in the past week. Reason for selling is It isn’t getting the attention or use it deserves.

CB350/400 / Heavy clutch
« on: July 27, 2022, 11:46:57 PM »
I’m finding the clutch on my 400/4 really hard on my hand, and after about 30 miles or so my hand is getting too sore to keep going any further. Apart from my advancing years and wimpy grip, any advice on how I can soften up the clutch operation.

Other Bikes / Any electrical wizards in the Edinburgh area?
« on: June 23, 2022, 07:18:42 PM »
Looking for a local sparky to help me with an old 6 volt Honda C50 step through which has no spark.
I’ve replaced everything electrical on it points, condenser, coil HT lead cap and plug and cannot get a spark. Other than checking continuity that’s as far as my troubleshooting skills go, so really need help from anyone that can come and have a look at it. It was running briefly about a year ago but since then It will not spark. Any help will be gratefully received with all the tea and biscuits you can handle.

CB350/400 / Refitting air plenum on a 400/4
« on: June 23, 2022, 07:11:24 PM »
Hi all, is there a technique or tip to refitting the air plenum between the carbs and air filter box?
I’ve been struggling to get the 2 sides fitted, if I do the carbs first I can’t get the plenum to fit over the oval duct at the air filter and vice versa. I’ve tried gently warming it up to make it a bit more pliable but that hasn’t helped.
My big mitts probably don’t help but I feel like I’m missing something simple. Thanks Alan.

CB350/400 / 400/4 float heights
« on: May 25, 2022, 03:33:58 PM »
I’ve recently overhauled my 77 400/4 carbs with a kit from the USA, from 4into1.com had the kit for many years but never fitted it. Now that I’ve done it the float height is concerning me slightly, the bottom of the floats do not sit parallel to the face of the float bowls but neither did the originals before I took them apart. When I measure from the face of the bowl to the lowest point of the float it measures 21mm which is what I understand it should be, but at the high end of the float it measures 23/24mm. Should the float be a constant 21mm straight across or does this sound right?

Also any tips on setting them up statically before refitting them.

Thanks in advance.

Misc / Open / SORN MOT and Rod Tax
« on: November 12, 2020, 12:59:18 PM »
Have tried to find information but not had any luck so far.

I have a bike that is currently taxed and insured until next June but the MoT has run out. It needs work and won’t get used until next spring so I won’t be renewing nor would it pass an mot at this time. Do I have to declare it Sorned because it has no MOT? If I do then I presume the road tax becomes null and void but I guess that because it’s only £20 I doubt there would be any refund. However if I got the bike back on the road early next year and I didn’t declare it sorned then the road tax would still be valid. It’s only a few quid I know but seems a waste to have to retax it next year.

SOHC Singles & Twins / Anyone got any Cb125tdc superdream parts for sale?
« on: October 03, 2020, 05:03:55 PM »
Hi all I’m hoping someone on here has or knows someone that has a CB125 superdream and maybe has either a good spare engine or specifically a complete cylinder head that they don’t need and would be willing to sell.

Mine is in a poor state and it would cost too much to fix what needs fixed with replacement parts. So looking for a top end but would take a full engine if available and at a reasonable price.

Thanks Alan

SOHC Singles & Twins / CB125TDC engine problems
« on: November 25, 2019, 02:16:44 PM »
I have an 83 cb125tdc superdream that despite my best efforts I cannot get it to run properly.

It has decent compression 120psi LH cylinder 130psi RH cylinder, and has good spark on both plugs, valves all adjusted correctly and timing marks all line up.
When I try to start it from cold and on the choke, it turns over for ages before it fires, when it does it just about explodes revs straight up to 6/7k revs then dies as soon as I try to back off the choke. Sometimes it will run thereafter after a lot of turning over again but there is a noticable weakness on the right hand exhaust compared to the left and right runs hotter than the left.

I'm lost for ideas what to check next Looking for some guidance on what I could check next to get it going again.

Thanks

Alan

CB350/400 / Ignition swap thoughts/recommendations
« on: December 28, 2018, 08:27:46 AM »
My bike doesn’t get a lot of use but generally always starts on the button, can be a little rough running initially and occasionally runs on 3 cylinders for a while till it warms up and then kicks in.

I was thinking an ignition swap would maybe smooth things out a bit and was looking for any thoughts or recommendations on any particular systems. I’ve seen a wide variety of kits and prices and are they a “you get what you pay for” type upgrade?

Cheers Alan

Other Bikes / Washers and ferrules
« on: April 21, 2018, 09:31:39 PM »
Does anyone know what the correct name for this type of washer?
On cmsl they are called a washer collar, but I can’t find anything of that name. You see lots of them usually on rubber bushes and or anti vibration mounts. I’m missing a few and and those that I do have are in poor condition so I’d like to buy a bundle and replace them. Finding them though is turning into a bit of mystery hunt.

Other Bikes / Parts Help
« on: January 09, 2018, 11:10:19 AM »
I'm in the process of rebuilding a 1983 Honda CB125TDC, and I'm missing a small part from one of the carbs. Its the small w-shaped spring clip that holds the needle into the slide.

You can't buy the spring clip separately as it comes as a set with a new needle and c-clip and costs about £16.00 plus postage, I only need the clip so was hoping somebody on here maybe has a stash of parts that could help me out, or point me in the right direction to somewhere that maybe supplies the clip separately, I haven't been able to find anywhere yet.

Thanks

Alan

Other Bikes / Fork Question
« on: January 01, 2018, 05:37:31 PM »
Currently renovating a 1983 Cb125tdc and I’m in the process of rebuilding the forks.
Noticed today that one of the lower legs has a back up ring which sits underneath the fork seal but the other one is missing. So my question is what is the purpose of this ring and is it essential to have it since there wasn’t one fitted previously.

Other Bikes / Cb125tdc
« on: October 25, 2017, 12:44:05 PM »
Hi folks was reading with interest Peteuk’s cb125 thread as I’ve also got myself one. A 1983 TDC model. No pictures unfortunately at present but it was in a similar state to Pete’s very rusty and unloved. So far I’ve completely dismantled it and had the frame powder coated. In the process of cleaning and painting everything else and looking to start rebuilding the forks and front brake caliper.

This is where I’ve hit a stumbling block, the front caliper is a twin pot which is probably identical and used on dozens of other Hondas. What has got me slightly miffed is the variation of prices for what must be the exact same part. I had to trash the caliper pistons getting them out of the body as they were completely seized in place. I thought replacements wouldn’t cost much but for my specific model they’re around £20-22 each. if I search by diameter and length 30mm dia.x 35mm long there are several different models using that size and are quite a bit cheaper. There’s just this nagging doubt that if I get the cheaper ones will they definitely fit ok. Searched by part number too and then the prices seem to go up again. Any suggestions or recommendations for suppliers.

CB350/400 / Best number plate
« on: July 03, 2017, 05:22:01 PM »
Was following a Honda CRV on my way to Aberdeen this morning with the number S 400 FOR , must be some history behind the number plate.
Maybe a former owner of a bike or anyone on here recognise it?

Alan
