CB350/400 / Fitting pistons
« on: February 15, 2019, 08:10:34 PM »
Hi everyone,

Just got to the stage of fitting pistons into the bores of my 400/4.
Been rebuilding it for a few years so thought I ought to get a move on ! :-[
New rings fitted so a bit worried about possibility of breaking them.

Any tips on fitting, should I use clamps that fit round piston and compress rings or just try and use hands to compress them?

Advice much appreciated.

CB350/400 / Engine bolt spacers
« on: May 17, 2018, 05:47:03 PM »
Hi All,
Trying to refit 400/4 engine in frame and struggling to remember where engine bolt spacers go, I know I should have noted before stripdown but its been a while now.
put the top rear bolt and spacer on in the order what I thought but bottom rear doesn't line up with the gap.
Can't find a decent picture of the engine in frame.
Any help much appreciated. :(

CB350/400 / Cam Chain Adjuster
« on: June 11, 2017, 04:24:04 PM »
Hi all,

I am rebuilding my 400/4 engine after complete strip down, engine case clean up.
didn't notice on strip down but looking at cylinder head cam chain pivot I have discovered the housing has a nut welded between it and the bracket as attached photo.
Anyone any idea why, and if its ok to fit as is.

CB350/400 / 400/4 SIDE PANEL
« on: November 25, 2016, 07:20:43 PM »
Hi all,
I have been searching for a while for a right side panel for my rebuild, original is cracked.
Left hand ones seem plentiful, cant understand why easier to obtain than the right hand ?
Is it because most people fall off taking right hand bends I wonder :D or is there someone with a secret stash ! :-X
Ah well I'll keep searching. :(

CB350/400 / Anyone used this company?
« on: November 17, 2016, 12:28:52 PM »
Hi everyone.
Just wondered if anyone has used this spares supplier from Japan, cruzinimage_uk
I have just bought a set of piston rings for my 400/4 for under £40, they arrived in just over a week and look good quality but haven't fitted them yet.
They also have camchains and carb refurb kits at reasonable prices. This is not plug for them but just wondered if I have had a good deal. :-\

Hi everyone

Just got crankcases back from soda blaster ( very good job he has done too) only problem is I didn't take any dowels out of the seal housings. There are 2 dowels left in, has anyone any idea how many there should be please. Advice gratefully received.

CB350/400 / Valve lapping
« on: May 07, 2015, 02:03:48 PM »
Hi all,
Have just registered but have been viewing the forum for a while and seen some great replies to calls for help and advice about restoration of  400/4's.
I am attempting a rebuild of an early model ( with rear footrests on the swinging arm)
I have taken head and barrels off and I am at the moment lapping the valves in.
Inlet valves are lapping in nicely but exhaust seats are pitted.
Does anyone know if there is a limit to lapping in, sure I read somewhere that the valves can only be taken back a certain amount.
Any advice would be gratefully received.
