CB750 / Fitting carbs on 750F2
« on: February 11, 2015, 07:14:32 PM »
Hi. Been looking through the site for information about carb fitting but not finding what I'm after.

I have been advised by a few people to use sealant on the rubbers when fitting the carbs. Personally I have never done this, but that said I have had a few air leaks in the past so maybe its a good idea. I should also say, the rubbers are soft and undamaged.

What's the thoughts of the forum, sealant or no sealant, and indeed what type of sealant?

Cheers all!

CB750 / Idle screws
« on: January 19, 2015, 03:49:48 PM »
Am off work today so thought I would have a go at getting the tickover better on my other F2.

The bike runs absolutely brilliant, but the tickover has always been lumpy, sometimes too fast sometimes stalling. It also makes the clutch rattle.

Started by checking points then strobing the timing (it was already spot on). Put the gauges on and balanced the carbs (again already spot on). Put my new digital rpm multimeter on to set the idle screws. Started 1.5 turns out then did the adjustments monitoring engine speed. It now ticks over much better but the screws are out 3.25 turns. Is this acceptable, seems way off its suggested starting point. Cheers.

CB750 / Carb rubbers
« on: January 15, 2015, 04:08:08 PM »
Hi me again, sorry to be a pain. This F2 of mine doesn't want to be finished so it's putting up a fight.

Sorted my other carb problem with some scrounged bits (thanks for the comments).

Now I find the carb rubbers are so hard I cannot get the carbs on. Pushed and wriggled them so hard that at one point I actually lifted the bike off its centre stand, good job I had the front brake taped on. Anyways, before I order an unbelievably expensive new set, is there an easy way of softening them. I know Ash has a method using unobtainable noxious chemicals, but was hoping for an easier technique.

So far I have tried oiling the carbs and rubbers, heating rubbers with the wife's hair dryer (sschh), and brute force, sometimes rubber mallet assisted.

Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

CB750 / Cruzimage carb kits
« on: January 14, 2015, 06:44:53 PM »
Just used the second lot of carb kits from Cruzimage off Fleabay.  http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/251551522191?_trksid=p2059210.m2749.l2648&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT   Am aware they are for a K7/8 and I'm fitting them to F2 carbs, but am only using the seals and gaskets plus the float valves. All these are the same part number for both models so they should be okay.

Unfortunately (just like last time) when bench tested petrol overflows from three out of four float bowls. These carbs has been super cleaned and the floats set to 14.5mm as per book.

Has anybody else had similar trouble with these Cruzimage kits, as this is the second of my bikes that this has happened to. Only way I can stop it is by setting the floats to 18mm, but this is a big step. Will it make a major difference.

Think I may have to postpone tomorrows engine start until I can get this sorted. Can anybody recommend a good quality carb kit, preferably for the 750F2. Cheers.

CB750 / Compression after rebuild
« on: January 14, 2015, 11:54:36 AM »
Bit of advice if you would. The F2 is now very close to completion and engine start day has almost arrived.

The engine has had a freshen up ie. skimmed head and barrels (PO going mad scraping gaskets with a screwdriver), very light hone of bores to deglaze, new piston rings, valve grind-in, new cam chain etc.

Thought I would compression test it before attempting to start now I can spin it over on the starter. Very disappointed with the results as No1 was down at 90psi, but jumps to 155psi with oil in bores. The others are slightly better but still low but also jump up when oiled. Testing was done cold without the carbs fitted, but exhaust on.

Am confident the valve timing and the rocker to valve settings are good, rings were fitted 120 degrees apart.

Is this likely to improve as the new rings bed in, or should I not risk starting it?

Cheers.

CB750 / Ebay K6
« on: January 13, 2015, 09:43:51 PM »
Come on then own up, who's bought it? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/291347317551?_trksid=p2060778.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT. Good buy if those exhausts are sound.

CB750 / Workshop tachometer.
« on: January 10, 2015, 07:09:12 PM »
Looking for an automotive multimeter with induction loop, mainly for the RPM setting to set up the slow idle screws (but also for other functions). Has anybody got any recommendations, must be affordable as it wont be used much. Also am I correct in saying that for ignition purposes a CB750 is twin cylinder due to the lost spark thingy. Most multimeters seem to do 4,6 &  cylinders? Cheers.

CB750 / F2 Indicator problem
« on: January 03, 2015, 04:28:57 PM »
Hi. Suddenly got a problem with the indicators on my old unrestored F2 that I use as a daily runaround. Nothing has been touched, but now when I use the indicators I get two flashes then they come on permanently lit. It is the same on both sides. Have changed the flasher relay unit to a known good item, and checked the earths where possible to get to them. Still doing the same. Anybody got any ideas how to proceed, am a bit stumped now. Cheers, and thanks in advance.

CB750 / F2/K7 Carbs
« on: January 02, 2015, 08:13:25 AM »
Hi all. And a Happy New Year. As your probably aware the F2 and K7 models share the same carbs. What I'm not too sure about is the amount of differences between them. I know they don't share the same main jets, but just wondering if anybody has a complete list of the differences. I have a good as new set from a K7 that I would like to use on an F2. Any ideas anybody. Cheers.

PS. True fact,  Every Christmas Satan receives thousands of miss-spelt present requests. You shouldn't laugh at Dyslexia, but JEEZ that's funny!!!

CB750 / Solid states
« on: December 04, 2014, 05:27:46 PM »
Hi. Just got a solid state Rectifier/Regulator for the old F2. Of course its arrived without any wiring diagram or instructions. Have posted a photo, can anybody tell me where the black and white wires connect to. They are both male spade fittings. Also, I assume it bolts on in place of the existing regulator. Thank you very much.

CB750 / Fitting Motad exhaust
« on: November 15, 2014, 07:38:51 PM »
Hi all. Getting close to the end of the build now. Decided on a stainless Motad 4 into 1 as the NOS originals are nowhere to be had. Been looking for 9 months and only seen one in the USA at $2000 plus the usual import and postage (too rich for me). Anyway, started fitting the Motad and was surprised that their is no way to fix the header pipes to the collector box. Was expecting clamps or springs etc. Does this just go together dry or am I meant to use exhaust sealing paste? Doesn't make it clear in the instructions, just says as per diagram that isn't there. Its a shame ASh isn't on here anymore, he would know. COME BACK ASH!! Cheers all.

CB750 / F2 brake caliper pins
« on: October 22, 2014, 08:23:40 PM »
Hi. Reassembling the old F2 that came to me in a million boxes. Am putting the brake calipers on and have discovered that I am missing a Pin A and the rubbers on all three Pin B's (45132-410-006) are not there. Does anybody know if the rubbers are available anywhere, or if not is there a fix for this. Also does anybody have a spare Pin A (45131-410-006) I could buy. Cheers

CB750 / Cam carrier damage.
« on: September 20, 2014, 05:48:36 PM »
Hi. Just putting the top end back on an F2. Whilst cleaning all the parts and clearing out the oil drillings, I have found some damage to one of the journals on a cam carrier. The oil feed hole was partially blocked and that I assume was the cause. I have dressed the journal lightly with very fine wet & dry and there is definite scoring evident. How much damage can be safely accepted on this part, and if replacement is required would I have to replace both carriers and the cam? Cheers.

Misc / Open / Classic TT 2014
« on: August 30, 2014, 05:48:43 PM »
Just back from the Classic TT. Been to all the races, all the VMCC stuff, and generally all over the island. All been good except for one very strange thing, I did not see one single CB750 of any flavour anywhere on the island. Are CB750's getting rare or does nobody actually ride them anymore. I'm probably as guilty as the rest as mine stayed in the garage whilst I went on a CB1300.
