Other Bikes / Fork seal holders
« on: November 23, 2019, 04:16:04 PM »
Any idea how to remove the Bomber fork seal holders without the correct tool which I'm assuming is a hook spanner. They are very tightly stuck but been soaking in PlusGas for two days. Or any idea where I could buy or borrow the correct tool. Cheers.

What a about this work of art that popped up on eBay. Somebody has actually spent good money building this POS. I can't help but laugh every time I look at it. ;D

CB350/400 / Wemoto kevlar clutch plates.
« on: November 04, 2019, 06:22:07 PM »
Has anyone used a Wemoto Kevlar clutch. I am trying to fit one to the CB350F but the plates are too thick. This is the second one they have sent out and I suspect the kevlar is swelling with the oil. Other than send both sets back and get a standard cork set, not sure what to do?

CB350/400 / More trouble with Cuzinimage parts.
« on: October 27, 2019, 11:07:33 AM »
Just got the CB350F back on the road after a long lay up (see other thread). The final problem that will be resolved this week is the clutch.

Trying to save a few pounds during the build (I know) I fitted a set of Cruzinimage clutch plates. This clutch is so prone to sticking overnight that it has become unusable. Last week I ran the bike late afternoon then parked it, the following morning the clutch plates were stuck solid. It is taking so much force to free the plates something is going to get damaged. I have sourced a Wemoto Gekko clutch with Kevlar pads and a new set of steel plates that should solve the problem (worked well on my CB750F2).

These old clutch plates will be stored in the grey bin until it's emptied along with all the other Cruzinimage junk that has accumulated over the years. So far the only items that have been any good from Cruzinimage have been the piston kits and the carb kits. All rubber and gasket items have been total poo. You have been warned. ;D

Misc / Open / JIS screws.
« on: October 06, 2019, 10:38:39 AM »
Anyone know of a source for JIS screws that hasn't been mentioned already. I am looking for an M6*90mm, just one. Had a look at Ash's recommend but there is nothing that long on there. I know it shouldn't bother me but having one cap head screw in the clutch cover just bugs me. ;D

CB350/400 / CB350F/400F brake pads.
« on: October 06, 2019, 10:34:55 AM »
I now have three sets of front brake pads (all different makes) for the 350F and non fit as standard. The problem is they don't go into the caliper without first filing the paint off. Now this is okay short term but they are going to rust into place at some point even though I have Copper-slipped them. Anyone know of a good make that fits without removing the paint. I assume this caliper is fairly universal across the CB range. Cheers.

Misc / Open / starter clutches.
« on: September 07, 2019, 03:47:08 PM »
Am just rebuilding a starter clutch (CB450) and the Clymer manual says to pack it with Silicone high temperature grease. I have never done that before, I usually just use clean engine oil. Is this correct or just overkill.

The Black Bomber Board / Black Bomber valve clearances.
« on: June 24, 2019, 06:38:24 PM »
Does anyone know the correct procedure for setting the valve clearances on a 450 Black Bomber. I have 3 manuals and they all tell a different tale. I think I have it right but best to make sure before I trash something. Cheers.

CB350/400 / Spark plug threads
« on: June 08, 2019, 04:43:53 PM »
I have a CB350F thats had a seized spark plug thats been removed, but now has a damaged thread. The thread will take a plug and torque up okay but I don't want to risk it if I don't have to. What's the best way of repairing this thread preferably not with a helicoil, as these have a habit of winding back out everytime the plug is changed. Cheers.

CB350/400 / 400F valve guides in a 350F
« on: May 19, 2019, 08:46:46 AM »
Is it okay to use a set of 400F valve guides in a 350F. Are the valves the same diameter stem etc. Am struggling to find 350F exhaust guides that have the stem seal and would like to use this set from Yamiya   http://www.yamiya750.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=179_273_180_186&products_id=3630   Alternatively, does anyone know of a source for the stem seal guides. Many thanks again.

Anybody know where I can get a petrol tank chemically stripped inside and out preferably in the Lancashire area. Or one that has a reliable courier service. Cheers.

Misc / Open / 40 year rule
« on: April 04, 2019, 08:17:50 AM »
Can someone clarify the 40 year rule for me. I have a bike coming up to 40 in June this year. Normally I wait for the date to actually arrive before changing the V5 to Historic Vehicle, but someone on here mentioned you can do it any time in that year from January 1st. Can anybody say that is the rule, and has anyone been successful doing it before the actual date. Cheers.

The Black Bomber Board / Sorry DVLA again.
« on: April 02, 2019, 03:41:02 PM »
I am at present rebuilding my CB450 Black Bomber. It's a UK bike that came with the old style V5 and is not identified on the DVLA website. What's the best way of going about getting it over to a current V5C. Would I be better waiting until the rebuild is finished or can I do it now, it has also had an engine number change due to damaged crank cases. I have no experience of this procedure as I have only had to deal with imports or bikes that already had a V5C up to now. Any advice you can give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Other Bikes / Thank you to Menno.
« on: April 02, 2019, 03:37:15 PM »
As some may know, about a year ago I sent off the bodywork from my Suzuki GS1000 to Menno for refurbishment. On returning the items DHL managed to put a sizeable dent into the front of the tank so it had to be sent back to Menno. Always the professional, Menno carried out the repair to the usual high standard and returned it to me for the second time. This time DHL managed to lose the package for close on 2 months before one day a surprise package turned up at the door. During the time it was lost Menno managed to track down a replacement tank in France without prompting from me, fortunately that was not required. When I opened the package the paint had reacted due to being wrapped so tightly for all that time, so it went back to Menno for a third time. This time it was totally repainted and the decals replaced before once more trusting it to DHL's caring hands. This time it arrived in days without any damage.

I realise what a lot of work this has been for Menno due to no fault of mine or his, and it must have been frustrating to say the least. So now it's back together I would like to thank Menno for the work he put into this and to say what a superb job it is. Also to Diego (Piki) who supplied the replacement decals for the third tank paint free of charge. Thanks guys, you are true professionals.

I should point out that this bike is not a full restoration as the original was in fairly good condition. It has just been repaired where required with a bit of chrome and paint to put it back on the road. This is the one I don't mind getting wet.
