Thanks Mick. I've tried far and wide here without success, so I would still like it if it is convenient for you. I will arrange a PayPal transfer via my daughter when we know the cost and practicalities.

Mick, that's extremely kind of you. Please let me know how much to send and I will do so, either with a cheque or via Pay Pal if you prefer (my daughter has an account, I although I have never opened one). I am in Norfolk, so UK mainland postal or courier rates will apply, whatever they happen to be.

I'm not concerned about the lack of a steering lock, I always carry a "U" lock that fits through the rear wheel and around a shock absorber leg.

Many thanks for all of the advice, it is just easy for me to ask the aero engineer to weld it as he visits our hangar a couple of times a week and I am often around there anyway.

Many thanks for the advice, I will wait until the riding season has ended and then take it to our aero engineer, who is a CAA approved welder and seems to be able to weld almost anything.

CB500/550 / Bottom steering head yolk CB500/4 K1
« on: April 25, 2016, 06:36:24 PM »
Does anyone have a bottom fork yolk for a CB500 K1 that they are willing to part with? I took my 500 for MOT today and the tester noticed that one of the lock stops is bent on the lower yolk.

He has passed the bike anyway (it is the same dealership that I have used every time since buying the bike in 2003) but advised that it is replaced. I have checked on the DS and CMSNL sites, however neither has this part.

I believe that this problem must have been there since before I bought the bike, as nothing has happened to it whilst I have owned it. It is only noticeable because the handlebars are closer to the tank on a full right - hand lock than on a full left - hand lock. A check of the lock stops then shows that the left side is slightly bent back, whereas the right side is straight.

I have been told that the dangers of heating it up and trying to straighten it are too great to make the exercise worthwhile, as it is cast and likely to break.

Many thanks in advance for any help that is available.

I learnt to fly at Gloucester (Staverton) airport as it was then called in 1972, so the pictures bring back some good memories. My mother still lives in Longhope (in a bungalow that we once owned) and I visit as often as possible, so still have a connection with that part of the world.

Thanks for posting.

My CB750 has the DS replica master cylinder fitted, my CB500 the original. Nothing to choose between them in terms of feel etc. in my opinion.

I've a new replica tacho (CMSNL supplied, I understand) that came with my bike but I do not intend to fit it. If you want this type, I would be happy to part with it for very little money.

Mine is around 120 miles (safe) to a tank. I normally ride on open roads, change up at some 6000 rpm and cruise at around 5000 rpm.

CB350/400 / Re: Anyone selling a set of cylinder barrels
« on: March 07, 2016, 08:39:33 AM »
I have a set of CB 750 barrels, removed from my 1972 K2 when I carried out a top end overhaul. They were replaced as a matter of convenience, so that I could have all parts ready for refit without waiting for engineering work/parts if it was needed although in the end, the original cylinders were standard size and seemed ok for reuse. Since removal, the barrels have been stored in bubble - wrap in the garage.

If its 750 K2 barrels that you need, send me a pm for further details.

Noelia, I would telephone John Wyatt and ask his advice. I have known him for many years and always found him helpful and he must have processed hundreds of these over the years.

CB500/550 / Re: Insurance K0 500 four 1971 - What is a good deal?
« on: March 05, 2016, 09:41:23 AM »
I have a Kawasaki Versys 1000 (June 2015) and CB 750/4 (1972) as well as a CB500/4 (1974) on the road with Footman James, through their VJMC classic policy. This allows any number of modern bikes and classics, provided that the classics always outnumber the modern bikes (so I understand, though I have only ever had the one modern bike at a time, so have not put this to the test).

I have always found them very good, over some 15 years of custom.
