CB350/400 / How can I tidy headlight area Spaghetti Junction ?
« on: March 05, 2022, 12:28:05 AM »
I feel this subject has been asked before but can't find it.

My wiring connections in/at/behind the headlamp will need some sort of tidying up as I clearly can't just cram the headlight into position & hope for the best. There are no wiring sheathes like on other parts of the loom just the main loom wires, the small looms from the Instuments & the Instrument panel plus the clutch neutral switch.

Ideally the back of the headlamp bowl would be elongated to easily accept all the wires or there would be a neat rubber sphere where they would all fit. At the moment my only thought is cut some rubber from a wheelbarrow inner tube or similar arrangement.

What do folk her do to hide and/or protect the wiring at the back of the headlamp?

CB350/400 / 3 terminal flasher/winker units.
« on: March 03, 2022, 06:48:57 PM »
My old 3 terminal flasher unit is a big heap of rust inside so needs replacing - the daft priced DS replacement @£78 has only 2 terminals and is squareish not round,  presumably that means changing the connections somehow.

I have a NOS car unit in my garage that has three terminals marked L P & X am I right in thinking I can use this one as its designed for the same wattage bulbs and is the same diameter as the original?

CB350/400 / DS cheaper fuse box vs genuine part experience.
« on: March 03, 2022, 05:51:56 PM »
I'm in the preliminary stages of connecting up my wiring loom - my old fuse box was the worse for corrosion so needed replacing.
I have decided the cost of converting to blade fuses was more than I wanted to spend so bought the DS patern part as it was a lot cheaper than the genuine one.

Initially my side lights all worked fine then they decided to only work when the ignition was in P position.
After a bit of testing I found that the fuse for the tail lights was not live when sidelights only selected.

I removed the fuse box to access the rear of the connections to find one wire was no longer attached to the fuse clip.
Duly repaired and lights now working - not worth the effort of sending it back for the sake of a blob of solder.

It's cheaper for a reason or I was just unlucky.

Misc / Open / Side lamp Mot rules.
« on: March 03, 2022, 03:51:22 PM »
Unless it's fake news there is no mandatory UK requirement for a motorcycle to have side lamps. I slipped up not ordering my 7" unit with a side lamp fitting. At present my DTRL is powered from the old side light connector quite happy to ride in the daytime on side lamps as its a low wattage lamp with an LED rear bulb.

CB350/400 / Rear light connections & loom cover question?
« on: February 25, 2022, 09:47:44 PM »
I downloaded this photo from a set on an auction site for a CB 400 - is this the correct position for the rear "plastic glove" arrangement where the rear lighting wires are connected to the main loom?

CB350/400 / cB400 left side handlebar switches wiring question?
« on: February 25, 2022, 02:43:47 PM »
The left side wiring loom from the switch that operates the Indicators, horn & headlamp beam has been messed with - it has the wrong sized male connectors so I am changing them to match my new loom. I suspect that the only female connector might be fitted  incorrecly but am not sure.

The loom wires are  the following colours,
Dark Blue (male)
Black/yellow trace (male)
Orange (male)
Grey (male)
White (male)
Light Blue (male
Light Green (female)

Can anyone please confirm if the one female connector on the light green wire is correct - the colour is somewhat faded.?

Interesting article in this weeks Autocar about a Swedish start-up "Stilride" that is planning to build a low cost electric scooter using newly developed technology to make scooter frames & bodywork by bending stainless steel using lasers along the intended fold line after cold rolling the stainless steel.

The process is in the R&D stage - a prototype scooter has been built - looks like promising technology. with a wide range of potential markets.

CB350/400 / Whats the thinking - front brake switch replacement.
« on: January 29, 2022, 12:44:05 PM »
Before I try to bleed the front brakes I wondered if I ought to replace the front switch as a matter of course / safety as its over 40 years old.

DS have a replacement at £18.50 Plus P&P - are there branded aftermarket options that are suitable?

Guidance as to sources available welcome.

Misc / Open / Colour scheme programmes for motorcycles ?
« on: January 24, 2022, 12:29:26 PM »
A few years ago Mini & I think VW had a website for folk ordering a new vehicle where you could choose interior trim and exterior body colours and see what they would look like.

Does anyone know of a similar system for motorcycles where you can look at different combinations of frame , wheels & body panel paint colours on a CAD type system. I've looked at a lot of bike colours on Pininterest etc just wondered if anyone knows of such a site for bikes. Does not have to be for Honda just to get a handle on different colours.

I've PM'd Laverdaroo who has given me some interesting ideas - if all else fails I have a friend who might be able to photo shop my bike with different colour options.

CB350/400 / Front pipe gaskets - is nothing easy ?
« on: January 17, 2022, 02:42:17 PM »
I thought I would fit the four  round copper composit gaskets into the cylinder head but they do not seem to just drop in like I expected.
Now the gaskets I have came with the bike so they might not be the right ones.

Are they usually such a tight fit -  do I need to drift them into place with a suitable socket or what?

CB350/400 / Which end to start when fitting Motad system
« on: January 15, 2022, 07:08:23 PM »
Sorry it's a basic question obvious to many but....
Do I attach the silencer to the bracket loosely first then the front pipes or start with the front pipes the attach the silencer? At what point to I tighten the front pipe clamps to the head?

CB350/400 / Rear exhuast mounting bolt size question?
« on: January 12, 2022, 05:42:40 PM »
The bolts I have are a bit of a loose fit in the mounting boss on the rear frame plus I can't find any part number in the manual that often quotes the diameter & length.
The way the lugs are made makes me ask if they are ordinary bolts or is there some sort of rubber mounting washers used in the fitting.

Can someone tell me what size the bolts should be please?

Other Bikes / My old XJ900
« on: January 12, 2022, 09:20:46 AM »
Whilst searching some old pics I found this one of my XJ900 longest I have ever owned one bike for 1995 to 2009.
I absolutely loved it until the day finally came when I could not pull it onto the centre stand - I fell off it once when it stalled on my house front - gee it was heavy to pick up off the ground just broke the bottom engine cowl.
